Chapter 1
In the middle of nowhere, besides a few dead trees in the distance and minor shrubbery on the deserted white ground, there were two very young girls wearing old worn out brown clothes. Standing near a well along with a large tan camel equipped with a large side carriage compartment. The camel was tied with rope and one of the girls with bright red long hair and no footwear, holding the other end. She was watching as the other lifts the well's handle up and down, filling their brown bucket up with clean groundwater. She had short black hair and brown eyes, and she grunts with each push of the lever from its tiring weight. "Hey MiMi", said the girl with red hair. "What...is it Dula", said MiMi pumping away. "Why do they have you and me doing something like this? It seems more suited to a boy, don't you think", asked Dula tugging on the rope as soon as she felt struggling from the other end.
The camel lets out a small and quick moan. "Not really. Well it doesn't bother me. And don't you mean 'why do they have me'? I've been doing this since we got here", said MiMi. "You would think that they could give us a small chore like cooking or washing clothes, not some hard labor", Dula said ignoring MiMi's response. "Who's doing the hard labor", said MiMi softly. "What did you say". MiMi stops pumping the handle and the water let's off. The bucket was full. "Done. Now let's head back", said MiMi stretching. "Finally. This should be enough for a couple of days. Now let's get out of this heat", said Dula. MiMi gets on one side of the bucket while Dula walks over to the other side. Both of them grabbed the rim on their side. "You're ready, Right", asked MiMi with uncertainty. "Sure", said Dula puffing up her face, bracing herself. "You don't look so sure". "Come on! Just lift the dang bucket", said Dula blushing. "Here we go", said MiMi. With that, they both combined their strength and managed to pull the bucket up. "Woah! WOAH!", said Dula from the overwhelming weight. She begins to stager, moving side to side, struggling to stand up. "Watch it! You're going to make it tip over", said MiMi as she desperately tied to compensate her balance.
"MiMi! Are you even helping me", screams Dula now panicking. "I doubt I'm the problem here", replies MiMi. After a couple of seconds they managed to settle it down. The water sloshes back and forth, with some leaving it's new home. "Okay! Okay. Let's just get it back on the camel", said Dula. One foot after the other, they both make their way to the side of the tan camel which was looking off in the distance to the left. Once they were in position, they looked over at the camel to see that the side carriage wasn't open. MiMi slowly looks over at Dula, while she slowly looks back at her. "DULA! I THOUGHT YOU WAS GOING TO OPEN THE CARRIAGE WHILE I WAS PUMPING THE WATER", yells MiMi. "Hehe. Yeah I forgot. Your beautiful face was just a huge distraction", said Dula closing her eyes grinning. "Yeah. That didn't work. Come on", said MiMi. They set the bucket down on the ground as slowly as they could. Dula proceeded to open up the wooden basket that was wrapped around the camel's side.
After, she walks back to her side of the bucket. "Okay", said Dula. "Make sure you're actually trying this time", said MiMi. "Whatever", Dula replied. Once again they lift with all of their strength and lifts the full bucket from the ground. They lift it high enough to clear the sides of the basket and sets it down. The camel moves over their side from the weight, it then starts to moan. "Whew! Oh quit your whining. You're much stronger than us here", said Dula wiping dust from her dusty clothes. "Don't talk to him like that. He's sensitive", said MiMi brushing the camel's side. "Yeah. And how would you know that? We found him abandoned near the side of a path", said Dula placing her hands to her side. "Still, That's no way you talk to a companion", said MiMi. MiMi then places both of her hands on the camel's first hump and lifts herself up, grunting in the process.
She uses the open rim of the carriage for a boost and finds her way up to the top. "Okay Mom. Now help me up", said Dula pouting. Dula closes the door and fastens it with a black belt. She throws the rope up and MiMi catches it in the air. "Use that strength of yours and pull me up", said Dula raising her right hand for an offer. "You said it. Pumping that lever by myself, gave me the ability to pull a thousand moons", said MiMi smiling. She reached out and grabbed Dula's hand. She pulls her up and Dula settles down behind her. "Don't get too full of yourself there. You just like to get off of what I say don't you", said Dula wrapping her arms around MiMi's waist. "Not far from the truth though", said MiMi. "Of course you are. Five-thousand grains of sand apart. Speaking of which, let's go. I rather see less of it", said Dula. "Next stop. Home", said MiMi. She swished the rope and guided the camel away from the well. They pointed towards an almost endless view of desert sands.
