DEAD OR ALIVE?
The tenth life I wished for was never granted to me.

I could feel that something was wrong from the moment I heard Adrianne's voice. She was not doing things according to plan, and he could not handle it. The plan is all ruined. Worse yet, I could lose my daughter. "Adrianne!" I reach out for her, pushing my body away to give her more space to breathe. "Please, stay with me."

"I'm not going anywhere," she croaks. Her voice is weak and hoarse. "If there's anyone you should be happy with, it should be me."

I do not say anything. "You preferred her over me. I heard it all, in the cabin."

I shake my head, tears forming in my eyes. "He was still trying to understand. You shouldn't have been there. You should've stuck to the plan."

"He doesn't love me. He never has," she breathes.

"That's not true!" I cry. "That's not true, baby, little barbie. He always has; he just didn't know how to show it."

"He tried to kill me."

"Oh, baby."

"I won't die, will I?"

"No. No, you won't," I say in a comforting voice. I am not sure of that. What I am sure of is that I need to take her out of this tunnel. There is not enough air here. "Can you move? We have to leave this place."

"Dad, there's something I have to tell you," she says.

"Yes, sweetie. We can talk about anything you want. Let's leave here first."

"No, dad. You have to know. The police are waiting outside, so you have to hear it from me."

A lump forms in my throat. I knew that something had gone wrong with the plan, but it seems that it was more serious than I had thought. "I'm listening."

"I killed her, dad. She took you away from me, so I killed her."

At this, a light shines into our faces. "Alan Marshall! Put your hands on your head and come out. You are surrounded. You have no escape."

It's Sebastian. I can tell. And, in the light he shined on us, I can see the small smile on Adrianne's lips. "It seems this is goodbye, father. Next time we meet, perhaps you'd need me more than I need you."
