your pov again
i wake up in an unfamiliar place. i sit up slowly, everything hurts. i look around the large room and grab my head, "am i dreaming?" i say out loud. i hear some shuffling next to the bed and watch as a familiar face rises up from the ground tired.
"oh you're awake one second stay right there!" he says before running out of the room.
i feel my eye, swollen and bruised. the back of my head hurts like i was dragged across something. what even happened. i remember singing when my hearing and vision went funny. and i was thinking how mama will kill me. maybe she did kill me and this is the afterlife.
soon camilo runs back into the room holding some bread. he hands it to me, "eat this." he says concerned and barely able to make eye contact with me.
i take a bite and as soon as i swallow i feel instant relief. this has gotta be drugs. looking at my arms, the scarring is there still from mamas cane but my face and back of my head feel better than ever.
i sigh in relief. "thank you." i say quietly, "but i must be going now." i say standing up from the bed.
"woah woah woah no way." camilo says running in front of me and spreading his arms out so i can't move past him.
"i'm sorry but i must be getting back to my mamá she will be wondering where i am." i say,
"you are not going back to her." he says a firm look in his eye. i take a step back,
"what." i say looking down.
"not after last night, you are never going back." he says pulling his arms back down to his sides.
'last night, she must have done something to me while i was out and he saw it. oh no my mother is going to kill me. i can't believe i passed out on stage.' i begin tearing up. i bury my face in my hands.
"woah hey woah." camilo says coming closer. "why are you crying, do you really want to see your mother that badly?" he says concerned.
"no. not that." i say through sobs. "i passed out on stage. i can't believe i passed out on stage." i say wiping my eyes.
"i heard your mother say no breaks i wouldn't be surprised if that's why you passed out." he says coming even closer.
"no i was trained for perfection i practiced for perfection i was meant to be perfect i've embarrassed my mother." i say completely breaking down and falling to my knees.
i feel camilo come down to my level and wrap his arms around me. i'm shocked. is this a hug. i haven't had one since papa was alive.
we stay like that for a while, this felt so right. like a piece was missing from my life and it's here right now. i felt complete.
he lets go and looks at me. pulling my hands off of my face. he wipes my tears with his thumb, "your mother has made you feel like you have to be perfect or else you will disappoint her. i know the feeling. it's alright." he says, he's being serious with me, i thought camilo was known for trouble making and jokes. he's so different to what he was last night.
i look away. "it doesn't matter. i have to go back. this isn't my home. and my mother needs me." i say standing up.
"then i'm coming with you." he says,
"no that will make things so much worse for you i promise." i say imagining what my mum will do to camilo after he saw what happened.
"i don't necessarily care." he says a big grin on his face, that's the camilo i know.
i sigh. "stay 10feet behind me the whole time." he nods his head. but it's obvious he didn't listen because now we're walking side by side.
"camilo. behind me please." he just whistles as he ignores me.
as we get closer to my house i stop walking. camilo notices and walks back to where i am.
"are you sure you want to do this. you're welcome to stay in the casita if you like?" he says. i stand there for a second.
i...
"i need some time to think about this." i say looking down balling my fists.
"of course.. but how much time are we talking." he says holding the back of his neck.
"i dont know. till i figure out what i want to do camilo." i say, we were just about to turn around when the front door to my house slammed open.
'shit.'
