Caroline wasn't sure how long she stood on the balcony, staring at the city that was now her home.

New Orleans was alive, buzzing with power, danger, and secrets she wasn't sure she wanted to uncover.

Hayley's warning rang in her head.

"If they find out you're pregnant with his children—"

Caroline shivered, wrapping her arms around herself.

What if she had made a mistake?

What if leaving Mystic Falls had been the wrong choice?

A familiar voice interrupted her thoughts.

"You look lost in thought, love."

Caroline turned to find Klaus standing in the doorway, watching her with that frustratingly smug yet unreadable expression.

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, well, being told your unborn children might get you killed kind of kills the party vibe."

Klaus chuckled, stepping closer. "Hayley always did have a flair for the dramatic."

Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Says the guy who once skinned people alive for fun."

Klaus smirked, tilting his head. "A fair point."

She sighed. "Klaus, is there something you're not telling me?"

He didn't answer right away. Instead, he reached into his pocket, pulling out something small and shining in the dim light.

Caroline's breath caught.

A ring.

Her heart stopped.

No.

No way.

"Oh my God," she whispered. "You're not seriously—"

Klaus smirked. "Marry me, Caroline."
