Chapter 15 - Immortal, He Cannot Fly
Bai Fanlu lowly scolded him, but his movements were only lighter. After finishing the bandage, he said, "Think about what you're doing next time, silly."
Xiao Liu didn't respond. He lowered his head and retracted his hand, his right hand wrapping around his left as he lightly touched the cloth on the back of his hand.
Bai Fanlu didn't expect him to learn and got up to walk over to the river. Xiao Liu's sword was still in the water. He helped pick it up and dried the blade, put it back in its scabbard, and turned around to hand it back to Xiao Liu.
"Take it. When you go out, don't let it leave your side."
Xiao Liu took it, and held up the sword and looked at it for a moment.
"This was my first time killing a person." He said, seeming to now be able to calmly face that fact, "It originally felt like a dream, but when I woke up and saw blood on the sword, I realized that I really killed someone."
"You didn't kill a person, you killed a demon." Bai Fanlu corrected his words, not wanting Xiao Liu to question himself or his conscience about this matter.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Liu shook his head, "A man or a demon, what's the difference?"
Bai Fanlu was asked this question for the first time, and he failed to answer immediately. He opened his mouth, but hesitated for a moment, "If it's a demon, presumably anyone would have the right to kill it."
"Do you think that way?"
Bai Fanlu certainly didn't think that way, but still said, "Many people think like that."
"At least, I don't think that way." Xiao Liu fastened the sword back on his waist and patted the scabbard, "But I'm glad it turned out to be an evil person for me. I don't know if I could've managed to do it before."
Although it was meaningless to ask a sixteen-year-old boy like this, Bai Fanlu looked at Xiao Liu's hand wrapped around the white cloth strip, and suddenly couldn't help asking him, "Do you think there is no difference between humans and demons?
"...And immortals?" He added another sentence.
Xiao Liu looked strange, he asked, first frowning, then smiling, "What's the difference? There are both good and bad. For the flower thief, even if he was a human, he did so many evil things, so I would still want to kill him. I killed him because he was terrible, not because he was a demon. As for immortals... there should be some who do bad things, but if I'm no match for them, then I guess there isn't anything I can do about them."
When it came to this, Xiao Liu seemed to be in a dilemma, "I think I'm still too weak, Immortal-gege. Why don't you accept me as a disciple sooner? You can teach me secretly, your master doesn't have to know!"
Xiao Liu was trying to beg Bai Fanlu, but found that the other party was staring at him with deep eyes, as if he was moved.
Bai Fanlu really was touched by Xiao Liu's words. The young man's eyes showed such natural timidity just last night, but today he could talk to him about the theory of life and death with ease, but it didn't make him feel that it was shallow and ridiculous. Instead, a kind of admiration welled up in Bai Fanlu's heart.
"Immortal-gege, is there something on my face?"
Yes, you have the moon in your eyes.
Bai Fanlu shook his head and smiled, focusing on Xiao Liu's gaze flickering between the shadows of the trees, turning them into a warm color among the mottled sunlight brightening and dimming.
