Finally lunch time! I felt like Mrs.Meek would never stop ranting over her summer reading bucket list.

As I enter the cafeteria I spot Adrian the same time she spots me. She's already in line and waves for me to come to her. Before I fully approach Adrian she says in a loud sarcastic tone over the chatter "We have so many delicious options today...one Mystery meat, two Cheese pizza that looks like dried up liquid glue on bread or the delicious soy patty on a bun! Pick your poison!" I can't help but to laugh at the dramatic tone she seems to have. "Erm...pizza it is." I reply.

We grab our trays after paying for our overly priced prison food and sit down at the farthest table we can find.

"So how was your first two classes of Senior year?" Adrian asks. "Meh I already embarrassed myself in Chemistry and English was agonizing." Adrian smirks and replies "Do tell the deets on your embarrassment." I roll my eyes and proceed "Well...there's this new guy." "Oh?" Adrian interrupts and drops her fork from her mystery meat and leans in with her arms crossed "This sounds very interesting" I roll my eyes "No, no, no! It's not like that!" Adrian smirks and I continue with a recap of what happened in Chem.

"So...I wasn't wrong, that was quite interesting!" I roll my eyes once more and add "It's not." She smirks once more as she mumbles a "Mmhm."

As the dismissal bell rings for next period Adrian and I part ways for our next class. Thankfully I only have three more classes until the day is over. I decide to take the longer way around to get to Social studies. As I walk by the glass doors of the Library I glance over to see Davian inside talking to our Principle Mr.Gareth. Both look strangely aggravated. I go to the side where the wood meets the glass and try and hear the words being exchanged. Am I seriously spying on someone right now?

"You wanted me here!" I hear Davian say in a low deep stern voice. "You are to keep low and quiet!" Mr.Gareth replies to him with an even stronger tone. I can hear their footsteps approaching for departure of the room. As I turn quickly to bolt the footsteps stop and so do I. I peek through the glass to see what's going on. Mr.Gareth who towers over the man boy I thought towered over our Chem teacher says to Davian in a more cool tone "You know your responsibility to our society, I need you to stay on course and vigilant." What the heck is this about? Davian replies with what sounds like a low deep growl formed into words "I know what I'm doing and I don't need your continuous reminders Theo!"

As the tardy bell rings I quickly get back on my course to class. Great! I'm late my first day! I can't help but wonder though...what was that about? Is he some kind of undercover cop? I mean our school isn't the best but we've never had anyone in trouble with the law here. I mean come on it's Bar Harbor Maine, nothing too exciting happens around here. I shake my head once more and dismiss my curiosity.

Two more classes pass after Social studies and the dismissal bell finally rings. This has been a very odd first day of school let alone my Senior year. I don't even take the time to pack up my book and journal. Adrian was dismissed a class earlier than me so we'll catch up via text or face time when I get home. Before I lift my things into my arms I put my head phones on and prep my music for my walk home.

As I walk out the doors escaping this day blaring my music I see him...again. He pulls out of the parking lot in a half beaten up Ford muscle car that looks like it belongs back in the 60's.

A walk that is only fifteen minutes felt like an hour. As I finally approach my front door to unlock it I can feel an involuntary sigh of relief. I walk up the stairs and into my room drop my things to the floor and dive face first into my awaiting bed.

I didn't feel myself drift off to sleep but am some how awoken by my phone vibrating violently on my bedroom floor. Crap, what time is it? I look over to see it's six thirty seven in the evening! Double crap! My Mom will be home in the next hour. I grab my phone quickly and see two missed calls from my Mom and three missed calls from Adrian. I tackle the harder of the two first as I press my mother's number. "Emory?" What the? Did the phone even get to ring? "Emory!" my mother says in inpatients and slight panic. "Hey, sorry I accidently fell asleep." She sighs half frustrated but I can also hear relief. "Don't you think keeping up on your school work is more important than an afternoon nap?" She replies. "Yes Mom, I didn't mean to drift off." I say frustrated myself. "Okay well, get up and get focused and prep dinner for tonight. I'll be an extra hour at the office but I'll be home in time to sit down with you and eat." Wonderful..."Okay, I'll see you in a little while then, I love you Mom" I reply. "I love you too Emory, now go focus on your school work." As I hang up the phone I see three text messages on top of the three calls from Adrian. Wow am I the popular one this evening. I have a small laugh at the thought and open up the messages.

Adrian:

"Hey, call me back."

"Emory....answer...your...phone!"

"FOR. THE. LOVE. OF. GOD. ANSWER. YOUR. PHONE!"

I immediately go to call her when her name pops up on my phone as an incoming call. Gez how do they do that? "Hello?" I say. "Well hello Ms.NEVER. ANSWERS. HER. PHONE! What the heck dude?" She greets me. "Sorry, I literally was only laying down for a minute and drifted off to sleep and my phone was on vibrate and.." I explain but in typical Adrian fashion get cut off "Ugh woman, you kill me with your never ending need for sleep!" I mean she's not wrong. "I know I do" I laugh. "So Mr.Chemistry is my neighbor" she says in a sarcastic tone. "How do you know it's him? You've never seen him before?" I laugh again. "Well, you were pretty specific on your details today." Was I? I think to myself. She continues "The tattoo was a dead give away." She says and continues "Anyways the house next door has been vacant and up for sale until the last month of summer vacation. I seen movers around July and then again yesterday and I guess this afternoon the family arrived." She informs me. "Oh, well that's definitely ironic." I say confused as to where this is suppose to go. "Isn't it? Anyways it looks like it's just him and his parents" she continues to explain "I haven't seen anyone else arrive other than that so far. All though his car is hideous" she laughs. And my memory flashes a picture of his half beaten up muscle car. "Well, at least he has one" I laugh a little harder at our misfortune than I probably should have. "Touche my friend, touche" she replies. "Anyways I have to catch up on my work and prep dinner for tonight so we'll catch up in the morning?" I suggest. "As long as you aren't in a coma, sure! I'll see you tomorrow." I roll my eyes in habit and reply "I'll even wake up early!" "I'm not holding my breath." Adrian says before hanging up quickly.

I grab my book bag and stray book and journal off the floor and head down stairs to the kitchen. I place my things on the dining room table and grab a pot from the cabinet to start the spaghetti noodles. Now that those are on I open up my text book to study and do the take home packet for Chem.

Dinner is done and I'm almost finished with my last assignment. I can hear my Mom's heels clicking up to the front door as I quickly finish my last sentence on my Social studies assignment. As she walks through the door she says "Smells delightful in here! Spaghetti?" I smile and reply "Yes, it was the easiest option for tonight." She walks past me to the plates in the cabinet "Yes, your little "nap" today seems to have set you back." I frown and reply "I know, I truly didn't mean to fall asleep so early." She gives me a gentle smile "We all have those days, it was your first day of Senior year after all." Her softer approach takes me by surprise and is oddly comforting. "Well" she interrupts my thoughts "Lets eat and get you back to bed so you can refocus and start a better day with a better routine." Ah yes there's the Remy I know. "Sounds good to me." I reply as we sit to eat.

After dinner I rinse the plates and my Mom takes over the cleaning up. I bounce my way back upstairs with my bookbag over my shoulder, quickly set my alarm for an earlier time than usual and repeat my arrival home and toss it to the floor but this time quickly set my alarm and then I dive into my covers. A few minutes later and I can feel myself drifting deeply into sleep once more.
