The day dawned bright and sparkling over the castle as the vampires within slept. From the outside, the castle would seem abandoned, with its boarded windows and climbing ivy. The strong and ancient stone fortress protecting not only the treasures hidden within, but the very secret that kept it hidden from all but those who sought it directly. Birds nested in the climbing flowers and small animals made their homes in the surrounding woods, all in all it was a peaceful place, but as the sun rose this day it rose over a blood stained forest floor, the evidence of a battle the night before.
Sera slept easily, exhausted by her fight and the ensuing playful race through the woods. Damien however was uneasy, he had fought for centuries to keep Sera from the need to kill, from even seeing battle and she had saved him. He shook his head to clear his thoughts as he stared at the sleeping redhead beside him, at what cost had she won this victory? Would she be the same sweet girl he had fallen in love with all those years ago, or would she become like him, cold and calculating, seeing everything as a potential target. All those years of sheltering her and she had become a warrior anyway. He fought with the feelings ragining within him, reminding himself that if Sera hadn't done what she had, he could be the one lying dead in the forest. He made a mental note to have one of his associates dispose of the body before Sera stumbled upon it, he could not risk her being hit by the mangnitude of what she had done, she had killed a slayer, more would come and they would need to be ready. Damien was still wrestling with these thoughts as the sun began to sink low over the horizon. Sera began to stir in his arms, fighting the setting sun. He slipped from their bed and began to dress, keeping an eye on her as she slept.
Sera sat up, frantically searching for her mate as she woke. She didn't even have a chance to say his name before he had pulled her into a tight hug and silenced her whimpering with a kiss. She snuggled into his arms as he stroked her hair, calming her from whatever had frightened her. She waited until he was done before wandering off to the closet to dress. She pulled a pair of grey skinny jeans off a shelf and slipped them on, grabbing a simple black hoodie and pink converse, she opted to comfort over sex appeal tonight, content to just spend the night relaxing with her love.
Damien had picked up his cell phone as soon as Sera was out of earshot, dialing a number he began to snap orders into it, giving specific instructions for the disposal of the hunter's body far from the castle walls and that the surrounding dead leaves and brush be cleared away to eliminate the sight and smell of the blood that coated the forest floor. As soon as he was sure his instructions would be followed to the letter he snapped the phone shut, sliding it into his pocket as Sera crossed from the closet to the dresser, absently pulling a brush through her hair. He pulled her close and kissed her, telling her he had to deal with something in his office, he left her to her thoughts.
Once he had left the room, Sera turned back to the closet, slipping her lightweight pistol into a hip holster and letting her sweatshirt hang over it. She could tell that Damien was worried about something and she was determined to stand at his side this time, no matter what was coming at them.
