Melissa
"Hello..?" I hear after the third ring.
"Why don't you care about me? I want to know! You have turned like a meanie. Why? Wh-what have I done tooo desserve it. It's not fairrr. You love workk more than me," I slurred out almost instantly.
"Excuse me? Are you drunk!?" I hear my mother's tone raise but I don't care. I shook my head to sober up. I really paid attention to what I was saying.
"You heard me. Why don't you care about me? Ever since dad left you always forget I exist. Ever since you got your new job it's been worse. You only care about your yourself. You make me go to school way before other people, you always leave me home alone, you have always made me fend for myself," I said slower but not slurred.
"Melissa Grace how dare you speak to me like that! I am not talking about this now. We will talk about your behavior when I get back home," there is shuffling in the background but I ignore it.
"Is everything ok sweetheart?" I faintly hear on the other line, but it isn't my mother. I knew that voice and I can't believe what I thought was actually true; it's my moms boss.
"Oh my god! Are you with your boss! At night! Are you sleeping with him?!" I shout into the phone. Again I don't care what time it is or how she reacts. I need her to confirm this.
"What's it to you! You're just a girl! You'll never know real love"
"You don't live him! How could you!" I'm not fully in tears. She would rather sleep with her boss than come home to her own flesh and blood. She is clearly showing what side she is on.
"Again Melissa I am not talking about this!"
"No mother, I want to talk now," I didn't care how mad she was. I deserved the truth.
"No! You're clearly under the influence because of how much of a delinquent child you are! And I work to get away! Do you know how hard it is to be me? To be the person I am? No you don't and you never will!" The line cuts off after she finishes. I fall into a sob and Adelade is quick to my side. We spend the rest of the night crying and talking until I finally fell asleep and succumb to the alcohol in my system.
JESSICA (Melissa's mom)
I hung up the phone before anymore words could be said. I can't believe she went to alcohol. How could she! And then to question me?! After all my hard work to pay for her schooling, her clothes, and the roof over her head. I can't believe her.
"Is everything ok?" Eric's voice pulls me back to reality from my fuming rage.
"Not really. Melissa is drinking and blaming me for everything."
"She is too much for you. You need a clear mind. You are the best in the business Jess. You shouldn't let a child pull you down," he comes next to me and holds me.
I know it's wrong to be sleeping with my boss, but it's help get me ahead. He showers me in gifts that I could never buy myself no matter how much I saved. But my little Melissa is my driving force. I am a bit too mean, I may be driving her away. But I'm doing all this for her. I just don't know how to tell or show her that.
"Well.." I go to answer but I get interrupted.
"I know if this company that will take care of your 'Melissa' problem. They will take care of her and make sure she is safe."
"I don't know Eric." What is something happened to her, how could I live with myself. But what if it isn't that bad?
"Come on Jess! With an empty house and mind you can do anything!" He did make that sound really nice. Doing whatever I want and not worrying about anything else.
"Is it a boarding school? That's what you're making it sound like." I look into his eyes and he chuckles.
"You could..call it that. Yea why not!"
If it's a boarding school they will make sure everything is alright. At least that what I've heard. But she won't go without Adelade.
"That sounds great Eric. But she won't go without her friend. She will bitch and moan if she's by herself," I argue. Maybe it won't work after all.
"I'll pay for the friend to go too! Come on Jess. What could go wrong! It's a great opportunity. You won't regret it" I could see that he really meant it. I'm glad he is thinking of her. Maybe he is a good father figure for her. I just need her to see that.
"Okay, okay. Give me the number and I'll call tomorrow."
"I'll handle it love. You just rest your pretty head of yours," I giggle and thank him. Then he kisses me gently in the head and leads me to the bed. I almost instantly fall asleep the second my head hit the pillow.
