Chapter 24: Serpentine Belt

"where are you going?" robby asks as I put my shoes on. 

"there's a family dinner tonight. Miguel, Sam, his mom etc." I say rolling my eyes, "hey, why don't you come with? you know, distract me from the whole lovey gooey 'trynna make a good impression on Sam's dad' thing?" 

"nahh, I'll pass." Robby says giving me his jacket. 

"okay, okay. anyways I'll call you later ya?" I say.

"yeah, yeah you will." he says grabbing my waist and pulling me closer to him.

I'm getting soft. and I don't care. 

I skate back to the LaRussos and notice two more cars parked out front. I get inside and say, "I'm home!" 

"great another LaRusso." Johnny says passing in front of me and I put my middle finger in the air and Johnny throws it back. I roll my eyes and then walk to the kitchen. 

"the green things on the stove, yeah?" I hear dad tell Johnny. 

Anthony passes by and says, "uh, what the hell are you doing here?" 

"I was invited." Johnny says taking the 'green stuff' off the pan.

"who the hell are you?" Johnny then asks which makes me chuckle.

Anthony looks at him with a smile and then says, "wait, are you the son? what'd you do, switch to Whopper Juniors."

"it's called a growth spurt. dipshit."

"still a piece of crap." Johnny whispers and I decide to walk in.

I slap the back of Anthony's head, "I agree with Johnny."

"oh shut up." Anthony says and then Amanda calls us for dinner.

Anthony walks away and Johnny looks at me, I roll my eyes and say, "Robby's doing fine." 

"I didn't ask." Johnny says quickly.

"didn't have to. I can read minds." I say.

"no you can't. you ain't no Wanda or whatever."

"no shit sherlock." I say and then turn around.

I could tell from the way he looked at me that he wanted to know about Robby.

I sit down besides Anthony, "how's Kenny Boy?" 

"I'm trynna eat in peace." he says and I look at him confused.

"why you actin' all bitchy lately?" I say.

"Sofia, language." dad says and I roll my eyes.

"so how's school going for you sam?" Carmen says smiling.

"oh it's going very great, right Sam?" Amanda says smiling.

"at that rate she'll take over the dealership." dad says.

"she is?" I ask while Miguel says, "oh really? that's so cool."

"oh no, it's an inside joke. when she was little she used to walk around the dealership like she owned the place." Daniel says it with so much pride, and so naturally that I can't help but feel a little hurt.

I made my peace with the fact that I'll never be the same as Sam to him, but for some reasons this still hurts. the fact that he'd just casually bring up childhood memories of Sam in front of me. and expect me to just not care?

"wow, great. inside LaRusso family jokes." I say smiling. Daniel looks at me with an apologetic look. 

"imagine Sofia without sarcasm." Anthony says.
