A lil author's note: if you couldn't tell I'm loosely basing this fan fic around athletic Hotch, and Y/N is in place of Beth but this is going to be better. (I'm not a Beth hater btw.) I say loosely because there are some things that are different. Y/N is younger, works with and knows Hotch already, etc etc. I know I have kept things very light and Hotch is being a bit toooo sweet but, I have some good things planned. We all know Hotch was a sweetie with Beth but a freak in the bedroom hahahaha
Your alarm went off, letting you know it was 6:30 A.M. and you needed to get up, but you had been awake for awhile now.
You tossed and turned all night, anxiously waiting for the sun to rise, to see Aaron, to see where things went. You threw the covers off you and went into the bathroom to wash your face, you decided to fill in your eyebrows a little bit. You also put on a light coat of mascara. You wanted to look presentable but natural, and the mascara deflected from your dark under eyes hinting at your lack of sleep.
You made your way to the kitchen, got some coffee and a granola bar, and tried not to watch the clock. You did a quick tidy to pass time after you were finished, and then decided to brush your teeth and get dressed.
You stood in front of the mirror for what felt like forever trying to figure out something to do with your hair when you suddenly heard a knock on your door. You looked at the time and it was only 8:16. He was early. You opened the door and saw Aaron standing there looking about as nervous as you felt.
You watched his eyes as he looked you up and down before clearing his throat, "Good morning. I know I'm early.. I just was up and assumed you'd be up too, and um, figured we could start training."
You tried to keep your cool and appear confident, "oh yeah that's fine. I get up pretty early everyday. I wish I knew how to sleep in, it doesn't even happen on days off" you laughed.
"I'm the exact same way. No point in staying in bed if you're not sleeping" he said agreeingly, reciprocating your energy.
"You can come inside if you want. I just need to get my shoes and my headphones" you said.
"Okay" he replied, stepping into your living area and closing the door behind him. You watched as his eyes examined your whole house. You made your way to grab your headphones off the charger in your room and you heard him call out "you keep it really clean in here, I'm impressed."
You came back around the corner and caught a glimpse of his face, his expression matching his words.
"Did you expect me to be dirty, Aaron Hotchner?" you questioned, slightly raising your eyebrow, you couldn't keep from smiling slightly at your own innuendo.
He laughed, and just shook his head, catching onto your joke.
You sat on the arm of your couch to slip your shoes on quickly. Once they were on and tied, you hopped up excitedly. "Are you ready for this Aaron Hotchner?"
"I'm ready when you are." he replied.
You grabbed your keys off the table, and squeezed past him to slip out the front door. He placed his hand on your back, the same way he did in the grocery store the day prior, following behind you. Butterflies filled your stomach instantly.
He closed the door, and you quickly locked it then both made your way down the driveway. Once you reached the sidewalk, you stopped as you went to put your head phones in. You thought about it for a second then decided to put them back in the case. You were beginning to realize there was no escaping the feelings you were forming for Hotch, especially when he was jogging five feet behind you and probably staring at your ass. You might as well enjoy the time spent with him outside of work, enjoy this different side of Aaron Hotchner.
"What are you doing, Y/N? Doesn't you not wearing headphone defeat the whole purpose of us training together?" he questioned, furrowing his brows.
"Come on, Hotch. You know there's more to this than you keeping me safe." you said and then took off running.
You couldn't believe you had been so bold, especially since this was the second day of you training together. In the office and when you were out with the team, you only acted that way with Emily or Penelope or maybe Derek. But as you heard his steps catching up to you, you knew it was worth it to suggest the fact that you might have a crush on him.
You slowed down a bit and steadied your pace as he approached your left side. "Why did you take off like that? And yes, of course there is more to this than keeping you safe, you are also helping me train." he said in between breaths.
Hotch was not stupid, he was actually one of the smartest on the team. He was smart enough to keep up with Spencer sometimes, always soaking in new things if he couldn't. And his upbringing and troubled past gave him more than enough street smarts. But it took him a minute to understand what you meant, to understand that the feelings that he was having for you were mutual. He was always so business oriented.
"Just wanted to see if you could keep up, old man." you said teasingly, only responding to his question.
He laughed but not a normal laugh, there was a condescending or mocking tone in his voice. You glanced at him a couple times in between strides and he was looking back at you with sultry eyes. You ran for a few more minutes until you got to the entrance of the park, you tapped his arm for him to slow down. You changed your mind, you wanted headphones, you didn't know if you could keep up normal conversation with him after the way he looked at you.
"I decided I do want to listen to music. I don't know how you run just listening to yourself breathe." you said as you pulled your headphones out of your pocket.
"I don't know how either." he said taking the headphone case out of your hand, pulling one out and putting it into his ear. You didn't even protest, it was a great compromise to spending time with him but not having to talk the whole time.
"Just don't complain about the music I pick or we'll have a problem" you said, as you pulled out your phone to put on your usual playlist.
You began running side by side. The next 20 minutes were filled with stolen glances between the two of you, sometimes a look of disgust when Hotch didn't like a song which would result in a playful smack to his arm. But he never vocally complained and you enjoyed sharing your music with him. It felt like opening up to him without using words.
You circled back around to the entrance of the park and slowed down to a walking pace. "How are you feeling? Second day of training in the books" you said as you put your hand up for a highfive.
"You really push me physically, but I think I'll be able to keep up with you once this all over." he said, highfiving you back then grabbing your hand, interlacing his fingers with yours. You walked like that for what felt like forever, taking it in.
You finally decided to pull away from his hand, though the lack of his touch caused you distress. You checked the time on your phone, the early workout benefited you because it was only 10 A.M. by the time you got back. You remembered Hotch saying he was going to have Jack this afternoon, you just needed to work up the courage to invite him inside. Just like you did before, and like he did when he held your hand (as innocent as it was.)
You reached the edge of your driveway and before you could even get the words to come out of your mouth, he looked you up and down and said "let's make breakfast" in a slightly domineering tone, with that look in his eye that you saw earlier. He took the keys out of your hand before you could even answer, unlocking and opening the door. You just followed behind him, not sure how Hotch was reading your mind or what would happen next.
