Reiner Pov

First day of warrior training. I wasn't really excited, moreover just determined. I was going to work hard, harder than anyone else.  I would be the best damn warrior Marley had ever seen, so dad would come back and we could be honorary Marleyans.

And so it's begun. The rocks hitting my window, every morning. I miss those now...

Rolling my eyes, I get dressed and run downstairs. I leave a note for mom on the table, telling her that I've left for training. Walking out the door, I take a deep breath.

I've got this.

"Hey Reiner!"

"Hello."

"Ooh why so cold Reineyyyyy?"

"Could you please take this seriously?"

Woah. She looks pretty cute in her uniform...

No. I shook my head to clear my thoughts. Thinking about a cute girl was not the thing to be doing right now. After all, I did say to take things seriously.

Walking to the training grounds, I begin to stress a little more. What if I'm not as good as the other kids? What if they all hate me?

"Reiner..."

Her voice broke me out of my thoughts.

"What is it?" I questioned.

"You didn't really answer me the other day."

Oh. I guess I didn't. But how do I feel about her...

"Yeah uh- I guess I didn't really think about you that way before. I mean- you were just the kid next door. But I-"

"Oh, I get it. I mean, why would you think of me any other way?"

I see you differently... I just wasn't looking

I wanted to finish my statement, but we had already arrived at the training grounds.

These kids looked- scary. Well, more specifically, one kid. A short blonde-haired girl that looked angry.

"Woah. She looks mean. Let's go talk to her!"

"Y/n, you're going to be the death of me," I mumbled through gritted teeth. Running after her, I shook my head. What am I doing, talking to the girl that looks like she might kick my ass.

"Why heya! I'm Y/n, and this here's Reiner," she said.

Her smile is so bright, even after all she's been through.

"What's your name?"

The angry girl was taken aback.

"I-I'm Annie. Why bother talking to me?" she asked.

Well, that was rude.

I started to say so, but before I could talk, Y/N started to respond.

"Oh, well, I'm not quite sure. But you seemed interesting, so here we are!"

You don't just tell people they look interesting- idiot.

"Candidates! I'm Commander Magath. You will follow your orders, and do so quickly. We are going to have you run a few drills to test where each of you physically are right now."

(Imagine just making this shit up 😭)

The girl next door started whispering to the angry girl. I was close enough to hear this:

"I'm kinda new to this whole warrior candidate thing, think you could show me the ropes? Also, wanna be friends?"

I couldn't believe she had the nerve to ask this Annie girl anything. I know I wouldn't have.

All of a sudden, I heard what sounded like... gunshots? No, there were no bullets. There was something mimicing the sound of gunshots.

"Get to running, kids!"
