Chapter Three

Tuesday is my day off in the morning. I don't have to get up until one because we don't have English on Tuesday. Which is upsetting seeing as I love the class, but I won't complain. Instead, I'm waking up to my phone ringing. It's not an alarm. No. Somebody is calling me. When I reach over to see who it is, I briefly check the time. It's eight in the morning. And it's Brooks who's calling me.

Forest Brooks is calling me at 8:23 in the morning.

"What the hell?" I mumble, confusion and sleep poisoning my voice. I slide the answer button to the right then put my phone to my ear. "Hello?"

He doesn't hesitate, nor greet me, before he starts talking, "Are you good at Chemistry?" he asks. He sounds frantic, like he's being held at gunpoint.

My brows knit together in confusion as I rub my eyes. It's too early for him to be asking questions like this. Idiotic questions that have no point. "I guess. Why? What do you want?"

"Listen, I have a class at 9:30–"

"What does that have to do with me?"

"I wasn't done," he snaps. "I... have a quiz today, and I need you to help me study before it. Seeing as you are my tutor, and it is your job. That'd be great, thank you." He lets out a sigh when he's done.

I let my mouth drop agape slightly, in awe of the bizarre and sudden request. I roll over on my side, a hand rubbing my temples as I let out a low groan. "You couldn't ask me that yesterday?" I question, but I'm more questioning his stupidity instead of the actual question.

I don't get a response out of him for a few seconds before he lets out an irritated sound. "I didn't know about it until this morning. C'mon, Tiny."

"I'm sorry, you're going to have to find someone else. Or study on your own." My eyes are already half closed again. I'd probably end up telling him something wrong because I'm too busy dreaming about fairies and butterflies to focus on what's happening in front of me. And I don't want to risk that. "Goodbye." I take my phone off my ear, and then I hang up.

I flatten out on my stomach and close my eyes again. "Maylee!" Cameron shouts, her voice echoing through my room despite my closed door, rousing me from my almost asleep state. "Why are you inviting boys over this early in the morning?"

What?

Then my door opens with force and closes with just as much. "Maylee, you did it?!" Cameron asks, her voice louder than it should be and panting. "You're having sex with Brooks? Oh, my God, I knew it! I figured you'd wait a little but whatever floats your boat."

"What?" I question, my hands finding my face once more. "What are you talking about?" I roll into a sitting position to look at her. Her back is pressed against my door and she has an all knowing look on her face.

"Maylee."

"Hm?"

She chuckles. "Brooks... is at the door," she finally gets out with a grin on her lips.

I slap my palms over my face and drop my head back to the headboard. "Well, kick him out? I didn't invite him here, nor do I want him here. He actually can't take 'no' for an answer."

"How about you tell him to go?" she asks, but it comes out more like a command. Which I refuse to do. He'll only end up pleading for me to help him, and knowing me, I probably won't be able to say no, despite not wanting to.

"What is your obsession with me and Brooks?"

"I don't have an obsession. I just want you guys to have sex. Friendly advice from your roommate and best friend." She flashes me a smile — one that I want to rip off her beautiful frickin' face.

I narrow my eyes. "Why him?"

She shrugs. "'Cause he's very much single. And hot."

"Oh, right. Brooks is hot, so I should have sex with him. Makes complete sense now. I understand. How could I even question your reasoning?" I groan, pushing out of my bed.

"Just shut up and go get rid of him or whatever."

I shake my head, a wide smile on my face. I find the whole "have sex with Brooks" thing hilarious.

"So you kicked him out of your house?" Another friend of mine, Milo, asks. "You? That's fucking crazy."

"I didn't kick him out. He never came in. I told him to go because I was tired and didn't really feel like tutoring him." It was the truth, and it had nothing to do with it being because it was him. I would've said the same thing to anyone else. "And why is it so hard to believe that I would say that?"

Milo shares a glance with the group, having a silent conversation with the three of them — Cameron, Jayde, and Nyah.

"Oh, come on. What?" I question, sitting more upright in my seat.

Nyah looks at me, leaning her elbows against the wood table and grabs my hands. "Maylee, listen, babe," she starts, and we all laugh. "It's just that you're a little... You don't look like the type to do that."

"You're calling me a pushover?"

Cameron nods, sipping on her soda. "You should just have sex with him."

"This is like peer pressure. You know, if I did have sex with Brooks, then I would be a pushover."

"There's going to be a party Friday, you should come. We're all going to be there — plus Mac," Jayde adds. "Perfect opportunity to get laid."

They give me a headache. "I don't need to have sex." And they've been badgering me about this for weeks. "I'm fine without it."

Maybe I'm just a hypocrite for saying it, but I really am okay without having some guy stick his dick in me. I don't gain a single thing. If anything, actually, I'd lose something. Focus, it'd throw off my schedule too. It's not that I don't want to, I just don't need to so why do it in the first place? It's an in the moment thing, and once the moment is over, what do you do?

"Just go," Nyah says, and Milo backs her up. "You'll have fun at the very least. You do need that."

I ponder the thought for a second, dropping my head back and closing my eyes. "You know what? Fine. Fine, okay." I groan, dragging my hands down my face. "God, happy now?" I pick my head up to look at them.

They share another look, this time with a smile on each of their faces. A smile that says everything. It was a ploy from the start.

On the shorter side but it's alright. Also, I apologize for the delay, I've been out of the house all day and didn't have time this morning to edit and post it before noon. :))
