MC swallowed, a jagged lump growing in their throat. Their face contorted in pain as sweat rolls down from the scalp of their head. Their grip on the revolver are firm despite their frame are shaking slightly both from the cold and the pain on their right shoulder. They felt bitter, hot tears burning behind their eyes, frustration eating away at all of their self-control. MC deliberately hardened their gaze, keeping it fixed on the man's face
"Why, Jake? Why did you lie?"7 days ago
"The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable, please try again later" MC sighed in frustration as another call went straight to Jessy's voicemail.
The scene of the last night attack kept replaying in their mind. Everything with this Man without a Face were getting out of hand. First, the video of Cleo in the woods. Then, Richy with the Raven's mark painted on his garage's door and now, the horrifying attack on Jessy. Everything is escalating terribly. MC were too deep involved in this mess to back out from. Even more so after Lilly's video and because MC grown to care for those idiots in Duskwood.
'DAMN IT! Be damned with everything! Be damned with the MWAF and be damned with Jake and his 'MWAF has a boundary that he would not cross' crap. They cant just sit back and watch everything from here, they had to do something. MC had to be there with them, there in Duskwood!
The next thing MC knew, they were already on the side of the road hailing a taxi to the airport. The long drive to the airport gave the time to gather their thoughts. Hands still shaking from having to leave the safety of their home. Going to Duskwood meant danger, now that shes just within the reach of the nasty glove-covered hand of the MWAF himself. Call it an impulse or a reckless decision, it doesn't matter anyway. MC was half way there already.
After hours of flight and rushing their way to the train station. They were finally on the train straight to their newfound nightmare. As the train speeds through the late morning mist, the view gradually changes from the concrete jungle of the city to a sea of trees. In another time, MC would definitely appreciate the view but looking at the forest now only brings painful memories of a masked madman and a missing woman.
It was nearly past mid-day as the train starts to slow down nearing the last station on its route. MC messaged the only person that they could trust, Lilly. The irony. Just a few days ago, if someone told MC that the person, they want to strangle the most then, is the only person that they could trust now, they would die laughing.
Spotting the blond Donfort from the crowd, MC waved at Lilly, one hand carrying the small duffle bag that they hastily packed. MC hesitated, again, for the hundredth time since they left home. Their steps are heavy with doubt, remembering the broken promise they made to a certain hacker. It's not like he can do anything now, and it's been 23 hours since he last went online.
