The next day, Y/n was woken up by someone knocking on her bedroom door. She turned her head, searching for her wake up call. When she found him, she sighed. 7:00 a.m. Far too early for a Saturday. She stood up with a sigh, put on her dressing gown and opened the door. She found herself facing Topper who was holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand. Y/n stared at him dubiously.
"What do you want?" she asked in a still sleepy voice. "Because I hope you have a good reason to come at 7:00 am on a Saturday, especially after yesterday."
"Exactly," Topper replied. "That's what I'm here for. Can I come in?"Y/n stepped aside and let him pass. He sat down on an armchair and handed her the bouquet. Y/n took it without saying anything and pulled on the cord that was attached to his bed. A minute later, we knocked.
"Come in Tom!" Y/n exclaimed.
The door opened to the butler who held a tray with two cups and enough food for two, as well as a vase filled with water. Y/n motioned for her to put the tray on her bed and gave her the bouquet.
"Put it in the living room." she ordered. "And tell my mom it's a gift for her from the Thornton family."
Tom nodded and left the room with the vase and bouquet. Without Y/n knowing how, he managed to close the door despite his two gripped hands. She poured herself a cup of chocolate then turned to Topper.
"So?" she asked him again. "What did you want to tell me?"
"I wanted to apologize for last night." He said in a contrite voice, "I behaved like an asshole. I shouldn't have said all that. I'm so sorry."
"Ok. I forgive you. But I want you to know one thing. You're going to have to accept to see me happy with someone else. It can't go on like this."
"Sorry? Are you breaking up with me?"
"Yes. Exactly. Do you know why? I understand that you don't want to tell me that you love me. You don't feel it. But I won't stand any longer that in all our arguments you bring him back to the fact that I don't want to do it. I don't feel ready to do it! I want a boyfriend who supports me, not who makes me feel guilty. I don't deserve it! And for your next girlfriend, you need to treat her with respect! "
"Are you serious here?"
"Yes. End of conversation. Tom will walk you out the door. Goodbye Topper."She opened the door and waved him out. He stood up and gave her one last look, as if to be sure what she was saying before going out. Y/n closed the door and sat back down on her bed, sipping her chocolate. She then had an idea. She grabbed her phone and wrote to Sarah. She had decided to throw a party. She invited all the young people she knew and, after finishing her breakfast, she fell asleep again.
She was awakened by the doorbell on the front door. She put on an acceptable outfit, went downstairs and opened the door. She found a package. She hopped for joy and picked it up. It was her dress coming back from the dry cleaners. She took it and opened it. To her surprise, she did not find her dress but a necklace and earrings, wrapped in newspaper. An envelope was attached to it. Y/n opened it and read it"The last episode of the series is out." she read. "A new series is starting soon but we are awaiting your confirmation for its release. We hope to hear from you soon."
Y/n turned the piece of paper over looking for a signature, to no avail. Suddenly she heard someone coming down the stairs. She hurried to put everything in order and went to the window. She pretended to be looking at the scenery and only turned when she couldn't hear the footsteps anymore. Her mother was sitting at the table with a cup in her hand.
"Hello mother." Y/n said in a neutral voice. "Did you sleep well ?"
"Alright thank you. Your dad and I are going to do some shopping today. Okay?"
"Yes of course."Silence fell again. Shirley finished her cup of tea and went upstairs with the package. Y/n stayed downstairs, wondering about the package. The image of the jewelry remained in her head. She was more and more sure that these jewels were worth a fortune. She didn't have time to think more because the door rang again. She opened it and this time it was her dress. Having nothing more to do at home, she went to the beach. As she thought, the pogues were there.
"Y/n!" Sarah cried. "What did you do to Topper? He looked like he was at the end of his life."
"We broke up." Y/n replied, shrugging his shoulders. "It was surely to be expected."
"Shit."
"It's okay. Shall we go swimming?"The pogues all rushed into the water, splashing Y/n. She suppressed a cry and jumped into the water too. The day passed quickly. Around noon, Y/n was forced to go home, to finish the organization of the party and to have lunch. Once there, she called Tom, who arrived with a plate and cutlery in one hand and a casserole dish in the other. He put them on the table in silence, pulled the chair out so Y/n could sit down, and put a towel on it. Y/n sat down and raised the lid. An appetizing aroma reached her nostrils. Grilled lobster.
"The party caterer has arrived." Tom said. "And your parents have gone shopping. They won't be back until tomorrow morning."
Y/n thanked him and started to eat. She had never understood how the servants of this house always managed to anticipate her requests. Around 3:00 p.m., she went up to her room and dressed for the evening. Once ready, she went downstairs. A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door. Y/n opened and smiled when he saw Rafe. She had invited him to come earlier.
"Come in." she invited him. "It's great that you were able to come."
"I know. Do you know Topper seems to be recovering from your breakup pretty well?"
"I don't care. If I called you here earlier than the others, it was to warn you of something. The pogues will be here tonight."
"Seriously? You know we can't stand each other."
"And I know that as my best friend you will make an effort just tonight."Rafe sighed and nodded in approval. Y/n gave a big smile and placed a kiss on his cheek, laughing. They spent the rest of the afternoon together playing video games until the guests arrived. The party kicked off, in full swing from the start.
