~begin of the beginnings~

The last day of the summer, by everyone hated. Well not everyone. Everyone expect a eleven year old girl from England.

Her and her cousins, in whose house she was living for the past nine years were going to Hogwarts for the first time.  The school of witchcraft and wizardry was her only way of escaping her family. That's why she wanted to spent her whole last day by sleeping to make the time go faster. But while planning that she forgot in what house she lived in.

Sleeping the whole day was never an option at the Malfoy Mansion, at least not for her. Because of her parents, she wasn't despised by her family, but she was never the favourite. Everyone said there was something about her that felt strange, like she was out of place. But they did try to treat her the same as the rest and give her a chance of becoming a loyal family member.

She often thought about what her parents would say about her. Having only heard stories about them made it hard for her to imagine what their personalities would be like.

Her father was a brave Slytherin, who joined the death eaters after he finished his education at Hogwarts. Many described him as the 'better Black brother' or the 'true Black heir'. Her opinion was undecided on the 'joining the death eaters and being immediately better' part. Like yes, almost all of her known family belonged to them, but if it was something good, she didn't know. No one wanted to talk about those thing around her or her cousins Draco and Cassandra. They were always send to their rooms or the conversation was cut off.

From the mother side on the other hand, she knew a bit more. Mainly because her aunt Narcissa allowed her to visit her other aunt in France once or twice. Her aunt Victoria and her became good mates real soon and exchanged many letter in the course of the years. She was also the one to teach Lyra french in which they started corresponding to avoid Draco reading her post, he always wanted to know everything.
Victoria told the little girl many stories about her mom. The way she described her made Lyra feel safe and happy, as if she still was there watching over her and supporting her at any time. Sadly that was not the case, because she past away barely two year after Lyra's birth. That was the main reason she lived with the Malfoy's.

She didn't hate it totally here but she would be much happier in a bit happier household because to be honest the Malfoy's weren't jumping and dancing around the whole time with smiles on their faces. The whole house made her always feel kinda depressing, even when she stepped a foot outside the gates she could feel different, happier, as if breathing with different air. She asked Draco about what he felt about the house, but his answer was always the same. "Home is home and you should respect it as it is." Even though it didn't answer her question she didn't try to dig deeper.

When she wandered around the Mansion she could sense what type of stuff happened in what room. The dining room, also known as the conference room, was sober, serious and scary, after spending a too long time in that room she always felt scared and goosebumps crawled upon her arms. That was also the room all the important gatherings were held in, that she wasn't allowed listening too. The kitchen on the other hand was calm, clean and creamy. It always made her happy, that's why she preferred to eat her breakfasts there when it was possible.

But the feeling she couldn't find anywhere, not even at her aunt's Victoria's, was in her own room. It was filled with hope, happiness and humanity. There she could feel what she wanted to feel and not hide her emotions, it was a safe place were she could just be herself. After asking permission for a very long time she was allowed to decorate it herself, of course with a final approval of her aunt Narcissa, but it was still hers and chosen by her. That's why the whole room wasn't dark green but but had only two black walls, the rest was a creamy white. Magical vines, that moved when they sensed motion nearby, hanging from the ceiling along one of the walls. Big old bookshelf's filled with books about practically everything lined up next to the other one and her big bed made from pine wood that had always coal black sheets on it and her cute stuffed bear she was told was from her dad. His name was Timothée, it was very uncommon and strange but she loved it, mostly because it was french. He was her best friend when even Draco and Cass were against her. Her room had also a in-walk closet were she kept all her dresses and robes she was able go collect over the years.

She also had some muggle clothing that she had to beg for but her aunt eventually gave to her. Looking good in public or even around a small group of people was always something she was obsessed about, her hair had to be perfect, along with her face and clothes. So she spent hours sometimes in her closet preparing outfits for different occasions. The one she took the most time thinking about was her outfit for tomorrow, the first ride to Hogwarts.

Thinking about it made her nervous, mostly the sorting part. Her whole family was a Slytherin, besides her uncle Sirius who is, as many from her family believe, a blood traitor or a backstabber or both. Actually she heard him being called many names. He was the only one to be sorted in Gryffindor. From the stories Victoria told her he was pretty happy, he had a big friend group he could rely on. He seemed happy.

"Lyra" she could hear from the hall but she intended to fully ignore it and try to fall into deep sleep again. "Lyra" this time louder and closer shouted a boys voice from the hallway. 'Please don't go into my room, please don't go into my room' she thought to herself burying herself deeper in her covers. Out of sudden her door swung open and someone stepped inside. Someone not big or heavy, someone who has a high pitched voice and is unpleasantly annoying most of the time.

"Lyra get up" said Draco right from next to her. " I'm sleeping" answered the girl still not uncovering herself, her sheets smelled so nice every night, she didn't know when or how the elf's changed her sheets but they would always be nicely made for her when she went to sleep. "No you are not and get up it's time for breakfast" said the boy with a high pitched voice. "I'm not hungry" answered simply Lyra, it was true though. Because of all the stress and mixed feelings about going she wasn't hungry at all. Her body wanted just to stay in bed for ever and never leave, but the other side of her wanted go go as soon as possible.

"Father says you need to come for breakfast" continued Draco while he turned around to look around Lyra's room. "And you've got to pack your suite case" he added after a second. The girl uncovered the up half of her body. Her dark brown/black curls falling into her eyes as she rolled on her back. She open her emerald green eyes and looked with a death stare at the boy.

" I already packed my stuff"

She sat up in her bed and Draco looked at her, he was a pretty skinny boy with platinum blond hair. Draco was also the closest she ever had to a brother, he was annoying and irritating but sometimes caring. They fought a lot but in a playful way, for them it was a way of showing some sort of brother-sister love.

"Well I don't see your bag" said the boy and stepped away from her and into the middle of the room. Lyra didn't have the strength to deal with him right at the moment. She brushed her hair out of her face and stood up. Her feet touched the wooden floor and walked to Draco, who was still looking around. She touch him on his shoulder and led him to the door, after pushing him out of the room and shutting the door closed she said "Well maybe it is because your blind".

A sigh could be heard from the other side of the door. "Merlin's beard Lyra, that was three years ago" he said beggingly, "and I'm still not forgetting it" answered the girl.

She walked to her closed to put something on and get ready for this last day, because sleep was not an option anymore after Draco had woken her up.

"But father is waiting for you" he screamed, "Okay, and I'll be there in a few" screamed Lyra back and heard him going away.

The last day she thought. This is it. But in what house would she get sorted into? How will she make friends ? Will she be stuck forever with just Draco and Cass? as Cass wasn't that bad but Draco was.

Those questions were flying across her mind and bouncing against the walls filling in the air. She tried to calm herself down a bit with the 'everything will work out just fine' phrase but it did shit. One last day and she would know the answers. One last day.
