Ellis looked at Beatrix, her leather jacket and piercings alone made her everything his family hated. But he had never felt safer with anyone before. Growing up he had always thought that maybe if he was good enough, maybe if he was sweet enough or agreeable enough. Someone would love him. Someone would be excited to spend time with him and listen to what he had to say.

So he listened to his grandparents agreeing to everything they told him. Sat in a church building believing everything that was said. Believing that if he was good and pure then he would be sent a kind and sweet alpha to take care of him and love him. Then he could have what he always wanted, a family.

All Ellis's life he had been told what to do. Decisions had been shoved into his lap with the answers already selected for him. What to wear, how to act, what to eat, who to love, who to hate... He went along with it because he had hoped his grandparents would just tell him once how proud they were of him.

But all he ever was to them was an inconvenience. A stain left over by their daughter who had gotten pregnant too soon and died before she could even take care of her 'mess'. A blemish on their otherwise perfect family.

Ellis wanted to make a decision for himself once. He wanted to hold on to whatever was growing here because it felt right. So as Beatrix let out a breath and turned around to head to her bike, Ellis spoke up. "Y... You...You're not coming?" He asked, Beatrix paused she had been in the middle of putting her helmet on, she lowered it and froze.

His voice had been shaky and he felt himself shaking, he was scared. Scared that he was making the wrong choice yet again. Scared that he was getting himself attached to the wrong person again. He was terrified that the little crumbs of affection that he had grabbed so greedily for had all been a part of yet another trap.

Beatrix turned around completely and staring at him with wide eyes. "Do... Do you want me to?" She stuttered out looking startled and even surprised. Ellis swallowed and took a breath, resting a hand on his stomach briefly he smiled. "Yeah." He told her. "It'll be nice to have a friend around." He said smiling. He watched Beatrix's eyes light up as she heard the word 'friend'. "Of course! Road trips are the best when you have someone to hang out with." Beatrix laughed, Ellis saw the relief in her eyes.

"So we're going to the ball of yarn?" Ellis asked, "Of course, that's where you wanted to go wasn't it?" Beatrix replied. "We'll stop anywhere you want to." Ellis grinned hearing this. They both got in and on their respected vehicles. Beatrix put her helmet on and then took off out of the parking lot.

The ball of yarn was the first of many stops. It extended the trip by a few days, but Ellis loved it. Ellis watched as a small pile of disposable camera pictures grew in his seat. He and Beatrix taking pictures together at each stop. It was evening time before they pulled into a roadside hotel parking lot. Ellis parked his car and checked his map. Not much further to go really.

He heard a knock on his window and saw Beatrix standing there. He rolled it down, "You know you can sit in the passenger seat if you want to." He told her. Beatrix blinked owlishly as if she hadn't even thought of that once. "You sure?" She asked, "Yeah." Ellis replied. Beatrix walked around the car and opened the door. She scooped up the pictures and sat them on the dash. "Not much further huh?" She asked, Ellis was sure she knew exactly where she was going. Beatrix had told him that she had been riding this route for years.

"Yeah," Ellis replied feeling a little nervous, there were so many places in Gold Coast. he didn't know where to pick. He didn't know anything about what towns were good and what towns were bad. He just picked there because it was the furthest away from her.
