"Omooo, you people should continue reading. This statistics course isn't for me abeg. Na medicine I wan do, no be maths" Fade sighed before closing her book, and IBK raised her head from the maths she was solving. She gave her a thumbs up and she continued counting with her hands so she doesn't make mistakes. Her calculator was faulty and she resorted to counting the old-fashioned way.
Fade stood up from the bench in class and she walked past Chubi who pulled her back. Since he came to beg profusely in their hostel, they have been talking but not like before. He had three statistics textbooks spread out in his front and he was scribbling with his left hand on a page of his sketch pad. Welcome to life as a Crownsfield student.
Fade tapped his head before she tried to walk away but he still held on to her hands while counting with his other hand. Fade placed her hands on her hip while waiting for him to finish talking. She was too tired to continue reading and watching Chubi study made her feel like she wasn't serious with her life or something. If she was being honest with herself or something, she already got tired of trying to calculate the formulas. She was starting to doubt if this was the same head she used to win the overall best student in Elite College.
"Where are you going to guy?" Chubi asked and she shrugged. She has no idea where to head to but she needed to step outside the classroom for a while, Maybe explore the whole of Crownsfield at night, she has never tried to do this before. Maybe it would be nice though. Anything asides from reading the statistics textbook will be nice. Sleep sounded like the best option but failing Mr. Ajeremi's course was like hanging yourself with a rope or shooting yourself in the leg. If you fail his test, your parents would be invited, it was that serious. Nobody wanted their parents to come to school and find out they have been doing rubbish.
"I just want to take a stroll, I'm tired of reading already. No be me kill Isaac newton why book go come kill me?" She replied and Chubi laughed before closing his textbooks and picking his phone to follow her. He was tired of reading too and if he was being honest, he would rather be anywhere else than be stuck in front of a statistics textbook. Fade smiled at a classmate and Chubi held her hand and they both walked out of the lecture theatre towards the road.
"Let's get Suya from the aboki outside the gate and we would go to my place and drink garri before coming back to continue reading the stupid course" Chubi suggested and Fade thought it was smart and they both continued walking towards the direction of the gate instead of walking aimlessly as they intended before. Chubi held to her hand even after they have left the environment of the lecture theatre and even though, Fade didn't like the way he was holding on to her hand. She felt comfortable with him, this was Chubi for her.
"Guy, leg no pain you? e be like say no be me get this leg again" fade sighed and chubby chuckled, it wasn't a new thing to him. Fade was always tired if he's being sincere. he stopped in front of her before bending for a while and she jumped on his back. he carried her properly and they continued to talk.
When they got to the Aboki selling suya, Chubi footed all of the bills and Fade only shrugged, she was used to him paying for things fast. She had to stop herself from getting offended each time he did it and she told herself that it wasn't that deep. On their way back, instead of going back to class, they sat in the love garden doing nothing but munching on the suya and speaking about different things.
"Fade, you're beautiful. The perfect kind of beautiful." Chubi said out of the moon and Fade's head snapped back in school. She wasn't sure where this was coming from and things were going awkward very fast. She hated when her friends hit on her and the last thing she wanted was ruining their friendship because someone felt the urge to act on their feelings.
"What do you mean?" Fade asked but before she could get an answer, Chubi pressed his lips against hers firmly. She went into shock and she was unable to do anything. A thousand thoughts raced through her head at the same time, and she wondered how to deal with this. Her friend liked him and she knew it, yet she wasn't pushing him away during the kiss.
