Chapter 1: A Ghoul's Life

Sakura's P.O.V.

" Aah!" I yelled, waking up from the dream that haunts me every night.

Sweat trickled down my forehead as I caught my breath. How many weeks has it been since this dream started bugging me? 2 or 3?

I glanced at the clock; 5:30 A.M. I usually wake up at around 6 o'clock for school since class starts at 7.

" Might as well get ready for school." I went outside my room and grabbed my towel.

" You're up early." A voice said.

I turned around to see my roommate, Touka. We live in the same apartment because of work. I have my own apartment but I rarely stay there.

" Ah! Touka-chan. You scared me." I put my hand on my heart and faked an attack.

" Your scream scared more, idiot." She retorted, " I thought someone attacked you or something."

" Ah, sorry Touka-chan. I've been having bad dreams lately." I explained, smiling sheepishly.

" The same dream?"

" Yeah. Its occuring frequently now. Every night I sleep, I dream about it." I sighed.

" You should talk to Manager about it. He knows you far better than anyone." Touka suggested, " I assure you he can help. He helped you when you were having trouble controlling your kagunes anyway."

" Yeah, I will. Maybe after class if I have free time." I said, standing up and going to the bathroom, " I'll be taking a bath now."

" Yeah. Just be sure to make it fast."

" Hai!"

I'm Sakura Komori by the way. 18 years old and 3rd year student at Kami University. I am a half-ghoul, my right eye is where my kakugan appears. I'm a hybrid actually. I have long pink hair and turquoise orbs. Anyways. I must hurry before Touka-chan beats the hell out of me.

TIMESKIP

Touka and I walked together towards the train station. She goes to Kiyomi High School while I go to Kami University. That doesn't stop us from being together though. She wore her school uniform while I wore a turquiose sweater, white tank top, a black skirt and black boots. We usually hang out afterwards. People would think we're sisters who have different appearances. She has purple hair which matches eyes while I have pink hair and green eyes. I consider her as my sister since she protected me ever since I was young.

We arrived at the train station just in time. I have to take the train so I can easily go to Kami. She would take me to the station before heading off to her school on a regular basis.

" I'll be off now. See you after school, Sakura-chan." She bid goodbye and headed towards the opposite street.

" Bye~" I waved and went inside the train.

' Crowded as usual.' I thought.

I squeezed myself through so I can find a seat, unfortunately, it was all taken. I had to stand and endure the hotness.

" Excuse me, Komori-san?" Someone called.

I turned around to see a black haired classmate of mine. Kaneki Ken.

" Ah, Kaneki-kun. Hello there~" I greeted with a smile.

He smiled shyly and scratched his cheek. I've known him for quite some time now. I've been his classmate since high school and I couldn't help but admit that I've developed feelings towards the shy boy. Not lovey dovey feelings or anything though. Its just like a warm feeling towards him.

" Please sit here in my place." He suggested, pointing to the empty seat.

" Oh no, I couldn't. You should seat." I declined.

" Please I insist. I couldn't bear seeing you stand during the rough ride." He said.

" Okay then. Thank you, Kaneki-kun." I thanked him and sat down.

" Anything for you, Komori-san."

He stood in front of me during the ride. He may look like a wimp but he really is kind hearted. He might not be the strongest but at least he knows how to be a gentleman.

After a while, we arrived at Kami. We have our classes together so we went to our classroom. Thus, another hellish day in school begun.

Its actually hard being a ghoul or in my case a half ghoul. Half-ghouls and ghouls are pretty much the same when it comes to their body composition.

Half-ghouls have only one kakugan while ghouls have two. We have to try our best to fit in in this society. We can't eat human food because it makes us weak but due to an unknown reason, I can easily eat and digest human food. Though there are some times when I can't. Ghouls survive by eating human flesh, which means that we survive by killing humans and that's why humans established, CCG or Commission of Counter Ghoul.

People who work there are called Ghoul Investigators or Doves. They kill ghouls and use their kagunes as quinques which is capable of harming us.

As of now, I study at a school full of humans. Its dangerous but its worth a shot for someone who's willing to learn. Being a half-ghouls isn't easy as everyone expected it to be though. Anyways, enough of the chitter chatter. Class is starting.

Timeskip.

'Finally! Class is over!' I thought happily.

I smiled and cheered mentally knowing that I won't have to undergo the pain of eating human food.

" Time for my shift." I fixed my things and went out of the classroom. I was reading the Black Goat's Egg when I bumped into someone. My book fell due to the impact.

" Gah, I'm so sorry!" The boy apologized.

" Its okay, I wasn't looking anyway." I said, looking up to see who it was.

" Kaneki-kun?"
" Komori-san?"

" I'm so sorry. Here let me help you." He picked up my book, " You read books?"

" Yeah I do. Takatsuki Sen's books are actually my favorite." I answered, smiling.

" We're the same then. Here, I hope you enjoy reading." He gave me the book.

" Kaneki!" Someone yelled.

" Ah Hide."

Hideyoshi Nagachika, known as Hide aproached us. I waved at him and smiled.

" Hey there Hide-kun."

" Hi Sakura-chan~ You look pretty as always!" The orange haired boy complemented.

" Why thank you." I said.

" Hey Kaneki, let's go to the burger shop!" Hide stated, " You should come with us."

" Ah thanks for the offer but I still have to go to work."

They might suspect me of something.

" Work?" They asked in unison.

" Yeah, I figured it would be great. It helps support my education anyway. See you around then, bye~" I bid goodbye and ran off to the station.

" Anteiku here I come~" I said cheefully.
