"Miss Zein, I've read your paper that you sent through our site." A man in his suit said. "Your reason for applying left quite an impression. We need someone who can work with us over a longer period and do their best to adapt," sabi niya sa akin, looking thoroughly at my papers.
I kept myself calm as I sat on the couch para sa unang beses na pagkakataong magkakaroon ako ng maayos na trabaho sa isang malaking kumpanya.
"I can do that very well, Sir," I said, giving my boss an assuring smile.
My father left me with a huge debt then died inexplicably. And my mother has vanished from view like bubbles. I'm going to die if I don't pay that loan, and I received numerous death threats from the debtors. Kaya na rito ako, doing everything to earn because I want to live and be free.
Willing to do anything, I applied for everything I could that still held my dignity, and somehow, I ended up here.
"Oh. Where are my manners?" He cleared his throat. "I'm Gray Leviant. I'm in charge of your interview today," he said, raising his hand, and I shook it. "If you read the job opening post, you are probably already aware that your position will be our manager."
I nodded. Well, that's a high position for a starter. This is a good opportunity, and I feel like, for once, I am lucky.
"Since you'll have to stay for an extended period of time, we'll arrange a place for you to stay," he added.
This seems like worthwhile work to me. This is a huge opportunity. Being a manager at such a large and well-known company? I have a great chance to pay off the debt and begin a new life now. Additionally, I'll leave the place I was staying at, which was practically a dump for rubbish. Isn't this wonderful?
Hopefully.
"Anyway, there are some things you should be aware of before you sign the contract."
"Well, whatever it is, I'll sign the contract," I answered.
I honestly have no idea what I will manage here, especially since the place they sent me is pretty full of high trees. I looked at the window, and from here, I saw the huge gate where I entered.
He raised his eyebrow. May sasabihin pa sana si Sir Gray pero may biglang pumasok sa pinto, sabay kaming napalingon doon dahil sa lakas ng pagkakabukas.
"All right, I knew I was smelling something good close by," a guy with blonde hair said. "Where'd you find this one? I didn't expect you to bring me a present," he said while looking at me.
What does he mean? Is he referring to me?
Weirdo.
"Aedwulf, enough with the jokes," Sir Gray said. "She's our new employee."
"What are you talking about? I never joke around."
With a grin on his face, Aedwulf, the blonde guy, tried to approach me, but Sir Gray stopped him. I'm not sure why, but it seems like the atmosphere is becoming more serious and intense.
The cold I'm experiencing is unbearable. Hindi ko alam kung paano ko ipapaliwanag ang nararamdaman kong ito, pero maikukumpara ko ang pakiramdam na 'to sa panaginip ko noong nakaraang araw.
It was the nightmare in which I was bitten by-what am I thinking again?
"E-Excuse me, I think I'll leave for now. It's getting dark. Can we just continue this tomorrow?" I asked, feeling anxious for some reason.
"Didn't I tell you that you already have a place to stay here?" Sir Gray said.
I nodded, "but I need to get my things first. Maybe, I'll move tomorrow?" I don't like the tension here, so I need to get out ASAP.
