Fundy tackled Wilbur with a hug the moment he saw the tall Brit. For some reason, the small fox-obsessed maniac had latched onto Wilbur the very first day of term, and had never left.

“That's enough, Fundy.” Said Niki with a laugh. “You know Wilbur's not a hugging person.”
Fundy came to his senses and, embarrassed, jumped back. “Sorry Wilbur, hi Niki.”

Niki, in sharp contrast to Fundy, had always been the calmest of the trio. If Wilbur wasn't with the rest of Lovejoy in a music room, you could find him with Niki. She had the kind of personality that drew people in, but all respected her boundaries and never pestered her.

“Guys, I have something cool to show you!”
“Oooh!” Fundy's eyes widened. “Show, show!”

Wilbur looked around and suddenly froze.
“At lunch. Too many eyes around here.”

Niki and Fundy shared a glance. This meant one of two things: it belonged to someone else once, or it was illegal. Considering Wilbur's record, Niki was praying for the former.

“Go on Wilbur!! You can't just leave us on the cliffhanger. What have you got to show us?”
Wilbur looked to Niki. “Make sure he doesn't give away what I have.”
Yeah, Niki didn't have much hope here. Word-by-word, it became clearer and clearer it was more likely illegal than somebody's old trash.

Giving her friend a stiff nod, she placed a hand over Fundy's mouth. It felt excessive, but he had a habit of yelling whatever Wilbur's bounty was across the hall.

Wilbur dramatically delved into his blazer pocket, bringing out a pair of round white sunglasses.

Niki and Fundy looked at them with twin faces of confusion. Niki brought her hand away from Fundy's mouth to hold it over her own in befuddlement.
“Oh so you bought GNF merch? Didn't realise you were such a fanboy.”
Wilbur scowled, and turned the glasses in his hand, showing his friends the 404 sticker stuck to left earpiece.

Niki saw the growing cry of astonishment building in Fundy's throat and slapped her hand back over his mouth.
“Wil, how'd you get the real ones? Did you break into his house?” It was said as a joke, but the concern was evident in her voice.
“Found them on a desk at school. He shouldn't have been so careless.”

Niki sighed deeply. One of these days, Wilbur's collecting habit was going to cause him trouble. One of these days, "shouldn't have been so careless" wouldn't protect his wimpy backside from a beating.

As quickly as he had produced them, Wilbur hid the Clout Goggles back in his blazer. “Not a word, you two. These will be hot for a couple weeks at least, or maybe even longer. It's best if Gogy doesn't find out they're with me.”
Secrets, well they could all do that. It hadn't been the first time Wilbur had asked them to keep one, and no doubt it wouldn't be the last. The guy had a habit of ending up with "hot" items in his possession, things that had been lost recently enough that the owner was still hunting them down.

“How much do you think I can sell them for if I bid them off on the school's subreddit?” Wilbur smirked and made eye contact with Niki, waiting for her response.
Her face like thunder, she held his gaze steady. “Remember our pact? You can keep them, but never pass them on to someone other than the original owner.”

Wilbur had sworn on it, the first time Niki had caught him hiding a bangle that wasn't his. If her friend couldn't help stealing, she was going to make damn sure he wasn't stealing for profit.

Wilbur rolled his eyes. “Spoilsport.”
The mischief still darted in his eyes, but Niki could rest knowing that he wasn't really about to break their pact.

Standing up from his chair in a rush, Wilbur stretched his shoulders. “Gotta go, promised I'd meet Joe, Ash and Mark in the music room for practice.”
Fundy looked visibly disappointed, but Niki smiled. In truth, she was glad Wilbur had his fellow band members. He had a habit of keeping to himself, and she could see him becoming a social outcast before she knew it. Fundy was no doubt happy Wilbur had other friends too, but he couldn't help but wish the lanky Brit he had attached to could stay.

He was half way up the corridor when he noticed a shadow in an alcove. Curiousity may kill the cat, but Wilbur knew as well as any that wasn't the full saying. So he went for a closer look.

And that was when he got grabbed.
