Introduction

One of the defining characteristics of a witch is her ability to cast spells; a "spell" typically being the word used to signify the means employed to perform a magical action. A spell can consist of a ritual action, a set of words, a verse, or any combination of these. For unknown reasons, most spells used by practitioners of Traditional Magic and Spirit Magic are spoken in an ancient language very similar to Latin, while the ancient sorceress Qetsiyah performed her spells in Aramaic (a language that originated in the Middle East). However, witches who practice other forms of magic are known to use spells in different languages; for example, the French Quarter Coven, which practices Ancestral Magic, perform their spells in French or French Creole, while travelers usually perform their spells in Czech. The Mikaelsons perform spells using even older magic and their language is Old Norse, similar to modern Norwegian, Icelandic, Germanic, Danish, Scandinavian and Swedish languages.

Biological Spells:

Biological spells allow witches to affect the organic tissue of a living being, altering a body's state and its natural processes. While it is most commonly used to heal, other spells can be used to paralyze the body or preserve the body of a deceased person.

Pain Reduction Spell: A spell that can be used to reduce another person's physical pain. While the pain subsides, the magic nevertheless has no real healing properties.

Healing Spell: A spell that is capable of instantly healing a person's injuries through the use of magic, much like vampire blood. It is capable of curing someone from a serious car accident. Such spells can be performed at different levels of speed and effectiveness.

Paralysis Spell: A spell used to paralyze a target's body, including even those of vampires, which has the effect of preventing them from moving.
