One Year Later...
Liana sighed from exhaustion. She was at another one of her many signings in her favorite bookstore, Barnes & Noble, sitting in the very back in one of the armchairs as several fans walked up with a copy of her published book, 'What If', the cover just showing three shadows, the middle one evidently a female while the other two shadows flanking either side of her were males. It was supposed to be Zoe in the middle of Dante and Quinn.
After signing the umpteenth copy that evening, Liana was more than relieved when the clock struck four. She had been there since nine in the morning and was extremely tired from all the copies she had to sign, and was more than happy to head home as she texted her ride to come pick her up when a young voice asked across from her, "You're leaving already?"
Liana glanced up from her Blackberry to find a young girl with pale-blonde hair and bright grey eyes--maybe around the age of fourteen or so--as she stared at Liana expectantly, a copy of 'What If' held tightly against her chest with both arms. Liana knew why the little girl was asking, and so sighed in defeat as she held out her hand for the copy as the girl grinned and happily gave her the book. Why did she have to be so nice all the time? Liana looked up at the girl with a small smile. "What's your name, sweetie?"
"Amber." Liana paused. Her mind immediately went back to Amber the Hybrid and found herself smiling at the memory of her old friend. She hadn't seen or spoken to her in over a year, so had no idea how she's been after all this time. After finally signing the book addressed to Amber and a small note beneath that read: Never stop believing, Liana expected her to just up and leave, but instead Amber just stood there, clutching her copy to her chest and seeming to want to say something but wasn't sure how to word it. Maybe she needed a little encouragement.
"Did you need something else, Amber?" Liana asked in a kind voice, and Amber jumped at the sound of her voice, as if already forgetting she was still there, seeming to be lost deep in her thoughts. Liana frowned curiously up at the young girl. "Does 'Amber' happen to be short for anything?"
Amber snapped her head up from staring down at her converse, the over-the-shoulder floral print dress she wore waving against her thighs as she moved. "What? Oh, no, it's not short for anything. It's just plain old Amber," the young girl said quickly, a light blush tinting her pale cheeks pink. "Um."
Liana raised an eyebrow after checking her messages to see that her ride was on their way. "Yes?"
Amber swallowed her nerves before forcing out her words in a rush, "I read your Author's Note."
Now this caught Liana's attention. "Really? I didn't think anyone read that page," Liana said, both eyebrows raised up to her hairline now.
Amber nodded before biting her lip. "I always read the Author's Note at the end of every book, but just to know if there's going to be a sequel."
"And do you think there will be?" Liana asked her.
Amber nodded her head eagerly. "Of course! I think Jane should deserve a guy as well! I mean, she's the only one not paired up."
Liana smiled. "I couldn't have said it better myself, Amber." Her phone beeped with a text just then, and so glanced down at it. They were here. Standing up, Liana looked out the glass wall of windows to see her ride parked right alongside the sidewalk directly in front of the store as all her friends piled out of the midnight blue van, waiting for her. "Well, it was nice talking with you, Amber," Liana dismissed, walking around the table and towards the front door.
"Wait!" Liana glanced back. "Is it true? Your gift that made them real?" At that, Liana grinned widely.
"What do you want to believe, Amber?" Liana asked in return, not confirming nor denying her gift to the young girl. And with that, she walked out the store and to her awaiting group of friends.
Amber stood there, watching her favorite Author walk outside in the warm Summer air as she was first greeted by a brown-haired boy, his eyes too dark for her to tell what color they were from the distance she stood at. After their embrace, Liana pulled away from the boy only for her to kiss him instead. Amber blinked curiously and found herself moving closer towards the window to get a better look.
Another couple exited the blue van, and Amber gasped at the sight of the two brunette boys, their features exactly the same, like a pair of twins, but only their irises were a different color. The one standing beside the gorgeous blonde had brown eyes while the one beside Liana had eyes as bright as emeralds. Amber immediately recognized them from their descriptions, and clutched her book even tighter against her chest.
A girl with brown hair in bright startling pink burst out from the passenger seat of the van right then as she jumped Liana with a fierce hug, arms wrapped tight around her neck as Liana laughed in turn. Once she pulled away, her mouth began moving at least a mile a minute while Liana smiled and shook her head, one arm wrapped around the waist of the boy beside her. Liana then waved over at the driver, and Amber caught a glimpse of shaggy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Amber blinked in astonishment. She didn't know what to believe now.
One more girl, another blonde dressed in a simple white skirt and yellow top, got off the van and tapped Liana's shoulder, speaking a few words to her before directing a finger over at the store. Liana looked over to find Amber watching them, and the girl stiffened, clutching her book tightly to her as Liana smiled. Amber couldn't help but feel like a peeper creeper at the moment. Although Liana then made a gesture with her hands towards Amber through the glass. Amber frowned. Liana did it again as she held her hands together before opening them in a cupping motion while mouthing over at Amber, "Open the book."
With a curious frown, Amber flipped the front cover open to the note Liana had written for her, and smiled once she read it, looking back up at Liana through the glass wall only to see her smirking secretly. Liana held up her left hand then as if it was a piece of paper, and looked towards her friends, as if in confirmation of something as they all nodded and smiled over at Amber. The young teenager began to feel uneasy.
Liana raised her right hand then, only her pointer finger held out as she mouthed back to Amber, "Watch the book." Looking down, Amber's eyes widened. In small green fire, three more words magically wrote themselves down in the same handwriting as Liana's so that the small note now fully read; Never stop believing in the Supernatural.
Amber gasped and snapped her head up just in time to see Liana blow out a spark of green flame from her pointer finger, winking over at the young book fanatic before piling into the van with the rest of her friends. Amber gulped, closing the hardcover book and cradling it to her chest once again. Now she knew the truth. Amber found herself smiling after the departing blue van.
She couldn't wait for the next book.
THE END.
For now. . .
