I just want a normal day at work. But no. A mother's work is never done. Even if it's something incredibly tedious and petty like this.

Yesterday King's teacher, Mrs.Hawkins, called me during my shift. She wanted to talk about my sons writing in class.

"Hello Mrs.Freeman?"

"Um actually it's Ms.DuBois but what can I do for ya?" I replied awkwardly. I hate when they do that.

"I wanted to talk about Kingston's work in class and his behavior today. It's just that I had some concerns."

"Ok so what is it?"

"Well today for our history lesson I taught the class about Christopher Columbus and our country. I thought he wasn't paying attention in class till I read his journal."

"Ok so what's the deal?"

"Well he said that I was basically a liar and I Columbus didn't discover anything. When i privately asked him why he felt that way he said out loud that 'Columbus didn't do shit and killed people'  he said it loud enough and scared his classmates"

Gotdamnit! I knew this would have Huey written all over it. I told him about telling Kingy that kind of stuff.

"Well I'm sorry Mrs.Hawkins but it sounds like he just gave his opinion."
I know it's really stupid but I had to defend him.

"Well I understand that but the other children got upset. He then proceeded to argue in front of the class"

"So is that it?"

"Well no. I've also noticed the language he comfortable using around the other kids. You see King swears during recess and it's just not appropriate. It's usually a habit they pick up at home."

"Well I can tell you right now I don't curse around my children. He knows I don't allow that in my household."

I was telling the truth. King picked up that filth from his father and uncle. Riley and his hood rat logic really trying to corrupt my boy. Riley tells him all women,including mommy, are called "bitches" and daily tells him "a real nigga pose to get dis paper and and show no mercy to the oops. We taking ova the game. We don't love these hoes"

I just want to raise a perfect gentleman and Riley trying to make him convinced felon.

"Does Kingston have a father around?"

"Actually yes he does. His father is very involved with our children. If you don't mind me asking what brought up the subject?" I asked slightly aggravated. Of course he has a dad. How else would he have gotten here weirdo. What you think I can magically make babies by myself?

"Oh Ms.DuBois I don't mean to offend you really it's just I never seen his father before. He's only brought his mother and his grandparents around. Also the fact that you and him don't have the same last name...."

"Well he does have a father that picks him up after school sometimes. That's actually where he gets the language from and who told him about Columbus. In fact that might be the person you should talk to. How bout I give you his number?"
