When Lysth said "we", it meant Gos.
Otherwise, explain why else Gos would be cracking all the private information beads? His two fingers were aching and red from all the squishing and breaking.
The only good thing was that the casings of the beads disappeared after it was cracked open. That way, there would be no pile of beads he would have to clean. Just thinking about cleaning something brought back memories of the old days, the days that Gos wouldn't have to go through and live anymore.
Which is a good thing... Gos thought as he cracked the next bead.
The task of cracking beads seemed pretty easy. But not when he also had to listen to everyone's private information, and got Lysth's attention. His spirit servant was the one doing all the memorizing. And for once, Gos didn't disagree with it. Gos was not about to get out a notebook and pen to write down all the private information. That would've taken extra time.
Still, it took him a solid two day and a half to finish cracking every single bead. (No, he did not work during the night. He slept.) Time was definitely not on his side, nor did it want to help him.
"Lysth," Gos asked at one point. "You're a spirit, and spirits know each other and are friends and stuff. Ccan't you ask the spirit of time to help me hurry this up?"
It just laughed and said, "No."
Then it was back to aching red thumb and index fingers.
Did he regret doing this? No, not really. All of this was worth it. It would be worth it. Hearing what everyone was hiding, what everyone should've been telling him. This was exactly what he had wanted all along. Exactly what he should've been doing, before Serca and the last minute plan ruined everything.
The pouch finally emptied around noon. He picked up the last little bubble and popped it open. The room filled with the last piece of hidden information: I was the one who stole Mimi's money, and once and for all, the voice and clear casing disappeared.
Finally, he was done!
Instead of celebrating, like he planned, Gos slumped on his chair once he heard silence. This surprised him, as he expected to be getting cake and throwing a party for himself. But no, the exact opposite was happening.
Who knew revenge could be so tiring?
"Well, you finally finished," Lysth stretched in the air. "Well, should we continue with the last part of the plan?"
"You're doing it this time. All by yourself," Gos sat up straight.
"But it is your plan of revenge," Lysth innocently replied. "Shouldn't you be doing it, along with me? It's okay, you don't have to answer that."
"Good, I wasn't planning on it either," Gos muttered.
"Besides, what would you do if I wasn't here to help you?" I continued, either not hearing what Gos had said or choosing to ignore it.
"Then I'd have another way to spread it. You've been no help this entire time and I was able to manage myself. I can manage without you as well."
Lysth just stared, as if it were wondering what to do with him. At this point, Gos honestly didn't care if the spirit cursed him. It'd been no help to him whatsoever. It turning into a flamingo or snail would've made absolutely no difference!
If you're going to turn me into a flamingo, do it already, Gos thought to himself, waiting in Lysth's eerie silence. The little glowly outline around it went from red to green to red to green, so there was no way for him to know what Lysth was thinking with all that chaos.
"That was a brave move," it smiled. The nerve it had to smile.
"Make yourself a good, useful spirit by starting your job. Now."
For once, Lysth did exactly what it was told. It went poof, and just vanished from his room.
He went back to slouching on his chair, just sitting there and enjoying the fimillair silence. Seconds passed, which turned into minutes. It'd been a long time since he sat somewhere, doing absolutely nothing. Just existing.
That was when a thought popped into his head.
"Should I quit getting revenge?" he asked himself.
Never before had Gos ever had that thought about getting his revenge on Serca. All he'd ever wanted was to, well, get revenge on her. Yet now, here he was, asking himself that question.
"Should I quit getting revenge?" He tested those words out loud. It felt funny on his tongue, and seemed to be louder than he'd said it.
Ever since his sister stole his job of being the Chosen One, he'd promised himself to get revenge. No matter what happened, he was to get revenge, even if it was the last thing he'd ever do. He was determined to make a mark, not to be forgotten, lost to his sister.
But here he was now, living through those moments he'd promised himself many, many months ago. In fact, he was about to finish his entire plan he'd worked so hard for.
But instead of feeling happy and ecstatic, he felt.. He felt so hollow and empty. This wasn't what he was supposed to be feeling.
So getting revenge was done. That had been the thing that drove him for over a year. Here he was, finishing that up, almost done with that personal project.
What now? What would he do now?
He was done with revenge, so what else was there?
"Stop thinking like that," he muttered to himself, trying toshove those thoughts aside, away from his head.
He stood up, and started to pace back and forth around the room.
This is right, he tried to convince himself. Serca stole my job from me. I have every right to get revenge. The years and practice... The betrayal... The pain...
Gos slipped into the corner of his room, crouching, his knees tucked into himself. Memories started to flood his head on a specific day. The day of the coronation.
He slipped into those memories, reliving the day he swore revenge.

Backstory time, let's go!
Well, more of the origin's of revenge.
Also, no, the book isn't almost done. We still have... well, I don't want to be too promising or anything, so I can't say for sure how many chapters there are after this one.
But the revenge arc is done! After the next chapter (probably) the third and maybe last arc will start. So, stay tuned.
Have an amazing day/night!
