Hide & Seek

I immediately get pulled aside to a larger play area. "Alright I'll count and you guys hide okay?." Sun gestures to the kids and I in the facility. This shouldn't be too hard it's just playing hide & seek with a buncha kids. Plus I'm good with small children. "1...2...3...4.." yep and that's my que to run off and hide. I crawl into one of the play structures hiding seeing a kid bawled up in front of me a crawl over and sit next to him. "Hey buddy what's wrong? You seem sad and lonely over here." The kid looks up at me a little with teary eyes "I... I got lost." He sniffles and leans on my shoulder. I wrap an arm around his shoulder and pat it reassuringly. "Hey it's gonna be okay. I'm right here." Just then I heard a loud powering down noise and the lights shut off. And I realized I'm screwed cause I have no clue where I am either. And I HATE being in the dark without a reliable light source. Especially somewhere like this. It's huge and I'm lost with a scared little kid. I'm in deep shit. I look around squinting my eyes trying to see the format of the play structure. "Hey, let's come over here. By the way what's your name?" I know it's a bit of an awkward time to ask for a name but I can't just keep referring to him as "that kid" he looks up at me with puffy eyes "I'm Ethan." "Alright Ethan I'm gonna try and get us outta here okay?" I look around the area once more and find a tube to crawl into though it's a little far away there isn't any imminent danger around. "Ethan, let's go over here okay?" I crawl over to the tube every now and again making sure he's still behind me I move aside to let Ethan pass me "here, you go first and I'll follow you behind alright?" "Okay... Are you sure we're safe?" I take a brief glance around contradicting our safety in the daycare. It's just a daycare right? There's nothing bad that could happen in a daycare center... Right? "Yeah we'll be okay nothing can hurt us here. Alright?" He gives me a tense nod and goes into the tube to which I follow behind. I feel cold hands slip around my body and pull me upwards out of the hole in the tube. "Naughty, naughty. It's past your bedtime." I look up and see a moon like animatronic flying up into the air and on top of one of the structures. "It's past your bedtime why are you still up?" Staring up at the tall gangly figure I feel a cold chill down my spine as it runs a cold metal hand across my cheek studying my face in the dark room. It's eyes are bright red to the point where the color gives me a headache. I pass out from the stressful situation and wake up on the foam floor of the play area. Sitting up I notice Ethan, the other kids in the daycare and... Sun sitting in the corner? I stand up slowly with a massive headache. "Ughhh what happened?" Ethan grabs my hand "THEY LIVE!" the other kids start imitating zombies and others try to tell me what happened but all the stories sound completely different from one another. I let out a small laugh at the sight of the lively group and turn to face the direction sun is in. Before I can head over to talk to him some of the kids grab my shirt and pull me back "don't go over there. He's in time out." Confused I bend down to get to their level "how'd he get in trouble?" The kids look at one another and make grumpy faces "he was being mean while the lights were off." "Ahhh I see how about I go talk to him about it then?" They look a bit skeptical before they agree. And off I go. When I reach sun I tap him on the shoulder and bend down a bit to meet him eye to eye since he was sitting on the floor. "Ah! Sunshine! Are you alright? Are you hurt? What happened? Did anything happen to you or the kids?" I yawn and give him a reassuring smile "I'm alright. Though the angry group of kids over there seems to be a bit skeptical of you." Sun looks over to the group of kids huddled behind a play structure as if they're hiding and waiting for something to happen. "They should be fine in a bit. Or not kids like them can hold onto grudges for a long time. Or forget them in a few hours, just depends on how upset they are with you." He stands up to overshadow me. Tall b¡tch. He walks over to the group and squats down to talk to them for a few minutes while I go and give a report for the daytime part of my shift. "And the time is.... 2:00?!" I was out for and hour and a half?? What were they even doing in that time? How long was sun in timeout?? I glance over to sun and the kids seeing some of them getting picked up others drawing with sun. I decide to sit back for a moment and relax though I don't think I'll get much rest before another problem comes up.
