Chapter 1:

"Seven seconds on the clock go." We spoke in hushed voices in the final seconds of exams.

"Hi I'm Ashley." A sweet and friendly smile spread across my lips.

"Is that really what you're going for, the nice girl? You only have seven seconds to make a first impression please don't waste it." Justin Wells grinned at me mockingly flipping his blonde hair out of his eyes.

"People always seem to like them though." I groaned putting my head in my hand.

"You're not nice though, you're sarcastic and rude, and it's hilarious, don't hide it." He urged me a mischievous look twinkling in his blue eyes.

"You're going to be my only friend at NYU then." I drummed my nails on the wooden desk in front of me tracing the patterns with my fingertips.

"Don't worry you can be friends with my friends, I'm sure they'll love you, that chocolate hair, those deep violet eyes, that curvy body." He narrowed his eyes mock sexually before breaking out into hushed laughter.

"Shut up, we're going to get in trouble again." I peeped at the teacher her eyes focused intently on her laptop I chuckled and turned my head towards the clock. "Justin, look." I caught his attention pointing to the clock, five, four, three, and two... one. The classroom erupted in the cheers of rowdy seniors as some threw pencils and crumpled paper at one another. I barely heard the old bell let out its last depressing ring. Justin screeched in my ear pulling me out of my chair, I grabbed my books off my desk and made my way to leave Justin in the rowdy classroom to celebrate our freshly earned freedom.

"Hey why aren't you celebrating, it's summer!" He grabbed my arm stopping me before I could make it two steps as people flooded the hallways.

"We still have the graduation ceremony tomorrow." I reminded him pulling away and at long last reaching the door of the classroom.

"We never have to wear this prison of a uniform again though." He punched my arm with force in reply.

"True." I grinned in reply looking down at my khaki pants and polo shirt as I kept walking, "I'm just not that excited to leave I guess, I'm terrified."

"You'll make friends." He assured me knowing my fear like the back of his hand, "I will admit it's hard getting close to you, but I think it's worth it." I almost slapped him for being that sappy as we walked down the stretch of hallway.

"Awe that's cute." I decided against my usual harsh behavior and gave him a small pinch in the gut making him jump just as it had since I met him in freshman year. He opened his mouth to condemn me for utilizing my vast knowledge of what made him tick when he was cut off my a holler from the other end of the corridor.

"Hey, Ashley!" A deep male voice called my name as I hastily tried to get to my locker.

"What?" I asked turning, I was instantly faced with Trent Thompson.

"Are you coming to my party tonight?" He asked dazzling me with a flashy grin. Trent was a fairly infamous player at our school that had recently been harassing me and it would be a cold day in hell when I, Ashley O'Connor, fell into his trap. His light somehow always perfect hair and deep blue eyes, wouldn't seduce me and neither would his sculpted body which he was all too aware of. I opened my mouth to refuse him when Justin's words wrung in my head, sarcastic and rude was how he had described me.
