There was once a kid whom she was close with. A kid almost half her age and almost half her height. There were still words he struggled to pronounce, but he had one sentence that he loved saying,

"Let's play hide and seek!"

It was always clear, always loud and nearly irrefutable. Might be because of his adorable smile or his cute round eyes, but she was never able to refuse any of his whims.

She had minutes left before she left Goa for good. The sound of the harbour and the smell of the sea filled her senses. She knew boarding the ship was the right thing to do now, but for one last time, she wanted to fulfil his request.

It'll be a quick one, she thought, I'll hide in an easy spot.

As the boy started to stutter over the numbers he was counting aloud, she ran deeper into the crowd of the harbour but still kept her distance close to him.

As her head turned in search of a hiding place, a hand grabbed a hold of her arm and started dragging her aboard a ship.

The grip was firm and tight, and she didn't struggle, nor did she scream.

It was her father after all. And he had been in a bad mood for the past week. She didn't understand it back then, but now she knows it wasn't anger, but shame after the king stripped him of his title.

In the end, the ship sailed just like that.

Never did she and the boy have their final goodbyes.

And never did she and the boy finish their game.
