Xavier was practically glued to my side. He wouldn't leave me, even for a minute.
We had a quiet dinner and then a drink in the living room.
I was sitting on the ground in front of the fire place.
We were both quiet, but I guessed Xavier needed some time to process me being back.
A lot has happened in this house. Both bad and happy things.
But the mansion still held a special place in my heart.
"Kat?" Xavier called out to me, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Hmm?"
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming back? I could have picked you up and made everything ready."
I looked back at him. He was still in his suit, but he ditched the suit jacket. His sleeves were rolled up and he looked good. He sat on the couch and his hand supported a drink.
"I wanted to call, but on the plane I had an idea. And I wanted to surprise you."
"What an idea?"
"Yesterday I followed you in London. I wanted to see what you were doing, how you were coping."
His eyes widened and he started at me.
"For how long did you follow me?"
"Long enough to see you with that woman." I took a sip of my wine.
He stared at me. He looked surprised, and slightly proud?
"And aren't you wondering who that woman is?" He leaned forward.
"I am curious, I will say that."
He smiled and stood up. He took a seat next to me on the ground.
"Kat, you have nothing to worry about. My heart only belongs to you."
"Says the cold-hearted mafia boss." I scoffed.
His posture flinched, and I know I said the wrong thing.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that."
"I know, love, you're just angry that I was out with a woman." He laughed.
"So who is she?"
"Didn't you just say that you don't need to know?" His face supported a small smile.
I lightly hit him with my arm.
"Just tell me."
"It would be just easier to show you." He stood up and offered me a hand to help me up. He leads me to a room that was next to our bedroom.
I haven't yet been in this room because it was always locked.
"I know you haven't been in here yet, but I wanted to keep it a surprise."
He unlocked the door, taped in a code and lead me inside. I stood in the middle of the room when he turned the lights on.
The room looked like a giant safe. All the wall were covered with something.
Two of the walls were covered with jewels. All kind of jewelry. Even a crown.
The other two walls held some guns and some folders.
I looked towards him for an explanation.
"This room is like a safe room. It also serves like a safe of some sort. These jewels are all yours. I started a collection for you. That's why I was meeting the woman you saw me. I added a piece each day. And I intended to do that till you were back."
