The demon realm; part-1

Lyle stood confused on what he did wrong. He told me the details and I learnt that I was in a guest room, in the demon king's fortress.

A passerby guard in full armour peeked through the open double door and informed us. "His Highness is waiting for the both of you in the court room, I suggest you move along immediately,"

I and Lyle shared a look and the guard guided us to the court room.

My nervousness was on peek as I walked side by side with Lyle through empty concreted hallways. Gold frames of previous kings lined up on walls and massive windows allowed sunlight to pass through, brightening up the whole place.

I looked up at Lyle. He was looking around the place fascinated, not even the least bit worried about what was going to happen to us. It was all his fault and yet, he was so calm about it.

Judging by his behaviour, it seemed like it was his first time here. He did tell me he never left from under the bed for twenty years as demons under the beds cannot survive ten foot radius away from the bed, though being in the demon realm now was probably a special case. It was his first time in the demon realm, same as I.

We went up a spiral staircase and then the guard stopped at one of the many massive double doors. He pushed open the door and I gulped. I could feel my breath shortening and my heart racing.
It's not like I'm gonna be executed, yeah calm down, calm down, me.

I didn't dare look away from my feet as I walked into the courtroom with Lyle. The guard then shut the door closed with an echo.

We stopped at the centre of the huge, empty room with chequed floor and two guards similar to the one we saw earlier stationed themselves beside each of us.

"Nera Spencer, and the demon assigned to be under her bed, Lyle silver, you are to be executed two days from now, in the presence of all my subjects!" A rough voice roared.

Did I jinx myself earlier by thinking I didn't want to be executed?

I raised my head to the announcement of my execution. I was tongue-tied as I gazed up on the king of the demons.

A tall and buff man sat on his throne with a stern look on his face. Silky blond hair brushed on golden shoulder pads, while violet eyes shadowed by his frowned brows stared intently at me and Lyle. His full beard was trimmed clean and his broad frame resembled a strong warrior. Somehow his presence felt inhuman, just like Lyle. After all, they are demons.

Suddenly, it felt all real. The fact that we were going to be executed hit me like a slap on my face. My eyes widened and opened my mouth to say, something, anything but not a single word did come out. Standing before a literal king felt way too inferior for me to speak. Panic overcame and I heard my heart pounding, harder than ever with the rising tension.

"Woah there old man chill out, what's with this execution stuff lol it was just a spar of the moment I spilled too much 'secrets', cut us some slack here!" I heard the guards in armours shift slighting. While I was melting with panic the man next to me seemed to be in a cheery mood upon hearing his execution.

If my eyes could get any bigger, it was, when Lyle spoke in a rude manner, that too to the king of his own kind.

I looked at the king and the look on his face was unfathomable. Colour faded from his pale face as he slowly blinked. He was too shook to even be furious at Lyle's impoliteness.

There was a long pause of everyone silently staring at Lyle, unable to believe what just came out of his mouth.

I screamed on inside with the second hand embarrassment I received from Lyle. What was he thinking, spouting his usual nonsense infront of the king? I would've preferred if he kept quiet as that could only shorten our two days worth life span.
