"Yea. Well I'm kind of working right now so...." I trailed off when he didn't even seem any less determined than before. I frowned. "Duncan. I can't just walk out of here, I'll lose my job. Besides, why would I go anywhere with YOU, of all people?" Seriously though. After all what happened he thought he could just waltz his way into my life again and put my entire life on hold, actually my job on the line, just so he can talk. I didn't even know what it was about and I didn't frankly care. I didn't want some half assed apology or knowing Heather, this was probably one of her intervention steps.
"You don't need to work in this dump anyways." And before I could protest or even do anything, he grabbed my wrist and started to drag me towards the entrance.
"Let go you bastard! Let go damn it!" I tried to pry his hand off my wrist but his grip only tightened. After struggling for a few moments, I just let myself be dragged across the club and out into the crisp air. Benny gave me a strange concerned look but I shook him off.Duncan ended up dragging me to where his motorcycle was parked. He started to get on but I just stayed put. He looked at me weirdly. "Oh no. No way in hell." I hadn't ridden on his motorcycle since we were......16. On our first date. An actual one anyways. Duncan just stood there and I realized there was a possibility that I could make a run for it and make it to Benny......but Duncan was a former, or maybe current criminal and could outrun a track finalist.
I sighed in defeat but put the helmet on my head and say on his motorcycle. I instinctively wrapped my arms around his waist but soon tried to detract them, as that was an awkward situation. Instead of letting her hands slowly slip down from his waist, he kept her arms pinned around him.
It was an awkward and silent ride. Not that you would be able to hear anything over the motorcycle's engine or the wind that seemed to be all you heard. We end up stopping at this little cafe. I tried my best to fix my helmet hair, not that it did much. We ended up sitting near the back at one of those little tables for two.
Duncan ended up getting coffee but I didn't want anything. I hate coffee. We sat in silence for a moment before Duncan spoke up. "What happened to you?" I looked at him incredulously. "Are you serious? Let's not even act as if the past 3 years haven't happened." I rolled my eyes and started picking at a hangnail. Why did everyone think that I was supposed to be okay? That there surprised to see me like this? "Look Court. If I had known-" I cut him off. "No. You wouldn't have! You would have down the exact same thing! You still would've kissed Gwen because at the end of the day, you still had feelings for her. So don't act like if you had known this is where I would be right now, that you would've done anything any differently." I desperately needed a smoke. Duncan was silent for a few moments after that. "What happened to the girl that was so determined, the girl who would always call me an ogre.....the girl who helped me steal food from Chef?" I lit up a cigarette, not caring about the rule of no smoking anymore. I was about ready to walk out anyways. "You smashed her and her heart." Without giving time for a response, I got up and left the cafe. Straight into the pouring rain. Groaning I stubbed my cigarette into the wet ground and started walking down the street. "Courtney seriously? You aren't seriously going to walk in this weather!" Duncan called out, apparently having followed me. "I'd rather walk in this weather than to be stuck on that death trap with you!"
He could go fuck off. I really didn't want to walk in the rain but I didn't want to spend another minute with him. So I did the thing I always did recently when I was stuck. "I knew you'd call soon." James voice sounded over the phone. I really hated begging James for stuff, knowing he would rub it in my face later but it was getting cold and I still didn't want to be anywhere near Duncan. "Can you just pick me up?" I said voice full of irritation. Honestly I was seriously reconsidering just walking the entire way home. "Relax Sweetheart. Where are you?" I hated it when he called me sweetheart. Not only did I hate the way it came off his tongue but it was one of Duncan's annoying pet names for me. And hearing it from someone else just made me flashback to those times.
I told him the address and took a seat on the wet curb. I had almost forgotten Duncan was there until he was suddenly behind me. "You plan on standing here all night?" It was the first time I really looked at him. He still had that dumb mohawk. And the piercings all in place. "No. I got a ride." I was hoping this would send him on his merry little way, but of course, life's too much of a bitch. "Okay. I'll wait with you." I sighed but didn't protest. Duncan was one of the most stubborn bastards I have ever met.
We sit in pure silence for a couple moments. "I'm sorry y'know?" He whispers as he turns to look at me. I'm pretty sure I look a mess. I probably look like a wet sewer rat with my soaked hair and my mascara is probably streaking down my face. "For what?" I needed to hear at least something else. Sorry just wasn't enough anymore. "For kissing Gwen. Or at least kissing Gwen while we were still dating. It honestly was one of the biggest mistakes of my life." I opened my mouth to respond, but was cut off when a car with loud music pulled up to the curb. I stood up. "Bye." I muttered to Duncan before jumping in the car.
