After a long day, Jack returned to his house, unable to believe he had become a commendable soldier. His mother had been proud of him, but his father was a different story. Upon arriving home, Jack was puzzled by the crowd inside. He rushed in, only to find his mother lying in her coffin.
"Mom, I'm home!" Jack cried out, tears streaming down his face. "Hey, Mom, wake up! I'm home!"
"I'm sorry, Jack, I didn't tell you she was ill. By the time we discovered her breast cancer, it was too late to treat," his aunt explained.
"Why? Mom, please!" Jack sobbed.
Meanwhile, at Jin's place:
"Mom, I'm back," Jin announced.
"Oh, my boy, it's so good to see you again," his mother exclaimed, embracing him.
"Where's Dad, Mom?" Jin inquired.
"He's out of the country for a private meeting with the shareholders," she replied.
"Okay, Mom, I'm going to rest for a bit," Jin said.
Jin retreated to his room, locked the door, and began to sift through his collection of photos with his ex-girlfriend.
"I really loved you, but you betrayed me. I don't want to live in your shadow again, Jane," Jin whispered, gazing at a picture of his ex.
The phone rang.
"Hello, who is this?" Jin asked.
"It's me, Angel," the voice on the other line said.
"Ha! Ma'am, why did you call me?" Jin queried.
"Colonel James wants to meet you near the military training area. That's all. Bye," Angel responded.
"Okay," Jin replied.
Jin left his room.
"Where are you going again, Jin?" his mother asked.
"Colonel James wants to meet me at the military area," Jin answered.
"Okay, take care, my son," his mother said.
At the military area:
"Salute!" Jin greeted.
"Salute," the colonel returned the gesture.
"They said you wanted to meet me here," Jin stated.
"Yes, First Lieutenant Jin, I wanted to tell you that you're excellent in combat," the colonel praised.
"Just a bit, sir," Jin modestly replied.
"I believe you can fight for my daughter's sake and keep her safe," the colonel expressed.
"What do you mean?" Jin asked, puzzled.
