It was Sunday and all I wanted to do was sleep in. But I couldn't. I was up making breakfast with Loren as the television played in the background. Lo was chopping up vegetables as I cracked the eggs for the omelet we were preparing.
"So that's all that happened?" Loren questioned about me and Langston.
I grabbed the whisk from the drawer and rinsed it off. "Yep. He said 'he didn't want me to regret anything.'"
"Awww, he's a sweetie." she blushed. "I like him."
"Yeah, I do too. I noticed you and Julian are getting close." I smirked.
Lo glanced at me before continued to chop the ham. "I mean I guess so. But in can't help but to think about Rosa and his little crush he had on her."
"Yeah, I know what you mean. But I doubt that they were anything other than just flirting."
"I guess you're right." She said, before throwing all the vegatables and ham into a bowl.
After Lo and I had breakfast, we were sitting in the theater, watching How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, an all-time favorite of ours.
"I swear this my favorite part. She was acting so crazy!" Lo laughed loudly.
I heard the doorbell ring. "That must be my dad." I said, getting up. Loren got up right behind me. We walked to the door as the doorbell rang again, this time more urgently.
"Coming!" I yelled as I opened the door. There stood Rosa.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I looked at Loren. She was clenching her teeth with her arms crossed.
"Um, can I come in?" Rosa spoke, barely above a whisper.
"Uh-"
"Why should we?" Loren interrupted me. "Just so you storm out again and not speak to us for two weeks?"
"Look, I deserve that. But I just need a few minutes to explain myself." Rosa said, with pleading eyes.
I opened the door wider and lead the way to the living room. Rosa sat in the recliner as Loren and I sat in the love seat across from her.
"Do you want a water or something?"
Rosa shook her head no before speaking again. "I've been meaning to come by and speak to you guys. But I'm really sorry for everything that transpired over the last two weeks with us. I never meant for any of this to happen."
I glanced over at Lo to see her rolling her eyes. That's the difference between me and Lo. I'm way easier to talk to and I'll get over things rather quickly. Lo will hold a grudge for a long time, just like when she fought this girl in third grade over a coloring book and now she goes to school with us and Lo still doesn't like her.
"What was wrong with you?" I asked Rosa.
She dropped her head into her hands and sobbed. "I just had a lot going on."
Lo scoffed. "You? YOU?! Sorry to tell you but Bri just lost her mother. HER MOTHER!" She cried.
I looked up at her to see tears welling in her eyes.
"I have been here for her every step of the way, making sure she is okay, wiping tears from her eyes, laying with her when she had nightmares!" By this time, Loren had tears streaming down her face. I looked over at Rosa to see she still had her head in her hands.
"But no, you didn't even give her a call to say a simple I'm sorry for your loss to your 'best friend'. Too busy with your head stuck up Landon's ass. Get the fuck outta here." Lo stood up and walked out the living room.
I wiped my eyes and just sat there in shock.
"Rosa.." I spoke.
She sniffled and shook her head. "No, she's right. I should've been here for you."
"It's okay. It's not your fault." I moved near Rosa so that I can embrace her.
She weeped on my shoulder. "It's just a lot. I didn't know how to deal. I just been spazzing out." She said, trying to hold back a couple of tears.
She continued to explain herself for a few more minutes before leaving. I accepted her apology because I could see how sincere she was. After letting Rosa out, I went to the den because I knew that's where I'd find Lo. Upon me entering the room, I found her bundled up in her favorite cheetah print blanket, channel surfing.
"You good Lo?" I asked, sitting near her.
She powered off the TV. "No, hell no I'm not good. That shit was played and you know it." Lo stated, angrily.
I stuttered. "W-w-well she kinda explained-"
"I don't want to know nor do I care to know what the fuck she's been through!" Lo yelled, turning to me. "That's not a real friend, Bri. That's most definitely not your best friend. That shit was fake as fuck. She knew about your mother's condition. Everybody fucking knows but you didn't receive one fucking phone call, did you?"
I couldn't do anything but shake my head no.
"Yeah I thought so." She said. "We all got shit going on. But we're always here for each other, no matter what. That's the best friend creed, that's what we stand for. And she broke that shit without a care in the world. Fuck her, and I mean that. You should be feeling the same way. If a bitch shows you her true colors, don't try to repaint it."
She powered off the TV. "I'm out. I'll call you later." And with that, she was gone.
