This week was the week of the first football game, which means Friday is the day of the first pep rally. I was extremely nervous because Coach Middleton gave me such a voice in the dance we're doing. Half of the dance, I came up with myself. So I'm anxious to see how everyone will respond. I woke up in a so-so mood. After doing my daily routine, Nana greeted me downstairs with breakfast as usual.
"Sliced pineapples for the princess." She smiled.
I kissed her cheek before grabbing my plate. "Thanks Nana."
"No problem baby." She joined at the table with a cup of her black coffee. "How's that boyfriend of yours? Haven't seen him in a few days."
I just smirked. "He's not my boyfriend, and he's good. He asked about you actually. I don't know why he thinks y'all friends or something."
"Don't be hating. We are friends. Matter of fact, just tell him to text me."
"Nana, you don't even know how to text." I laughed.
"What's so funny in here?" My dad said, walking in the kitchen.
He had on his button-down and his slacks. His face was shaved and he was smiling like crazy. I'm glad he's feeling better.
"Oh nothing, how are you this morning son? Want some pineapples or some coffee?" Nana asked, pouring herself another cup.
"No. Actually, I'm meeting with a potential client this morning for coffee. So wish me luck." He came walking towards me and bent down to kiss my forehead. "Good morning baby girl."
I swallowed the pineapple I was chewing before responding. "Good morning daddy. Have a good day at work today."
He smiled at me again. "I will."
I finished breakfast and made my way to school. A hour later, I was pulling up at school. I was opening my locker when I was greeted by Langston.
"What's up?" he smiled.
"Hey," I glanced at him and pulled out my Calculus book. "How are you this morning? You smiling real big."
"The pep rally is this week. I'm ready to see you dance." He licked his lips.
I blushed. "Aww, how sweet."
He grabbed my dance bag off my shoulder and my purse out my hand.
"What you doing?" I closed my locker.
"I'm walking you to class shawty." He stated, grabbing my textbook as well. "Come on, we got four minutes to make it to Ms. Hill class."
I just giggled and followed him up the stairs.
"You must've did that assignment since you want to get there so quick." I said.
"I actually did. I aced it too." He retorted. "I know I did. I was looking up those answers for the longest."
I laughed as I walked in Ms. Hill class.
"Aww, my favorite lovebirds." Loren grinned, sitting on her desk.
I smirked and sat down. Langston followed suit and sat beside me.
Rosa walked in and glanced at me and Loren. She just put her head down and walked to her seat at the back of the class.
"Yeah bitch, better walk to the back of the class." Loren whispered, watching Rosa's every move.
I just rolled my eyes at Loren's pettiness as the bell rang.
"Good morning class." Ms. Hill spoke, going to the board.
After what seemed to be a hour of endless work, the bell finally rang.
As I walked out of the class, I encountered Amari once again. Langston looked at me and back at Amari.
"Come on Bri, let's get you to Calculus." He spoke, trying to walk out the door.
"Nah partna," Amari spoke, grabbing my arm. "She good where she at. She been walking herself down these halls before you, she can do it now."
I scoffed. "Amari, don't start. We don't have time for this foolishness."
Amari sensed how serious I was and moved over to the side.
"I'm just making sure you straight, Bri." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm good."
I pulled my bag further onto my shoulder and walked down the hallway.15 minutes into Calculus, my phone vibrated in my jacket. I put down my pencil to retrieve my phone.
Lo: What is this non-sense Amari talking about in class?
I furrowed my eyebrows.
Me: What non-sense?
Lo: Something about y'all meeting up at DQ and talking out y'all problems.
I rolled my eyes once again before putting my phone back into my jacket pocket and continuing my work.
My next two classes went by rather fast. As I made my way to the lunchroom, Amari came walking next to me.
"You're just everywhere I am, huh?" I remarked.
"Nah of course not, baby. That's just the universe bringing us together." He smiled.
"Whatever." I said, pulling open the café door and walking to where Loren was sitting.
"Y'all cute or whatever." Loren teased.
I just snickered since Langston wasn't there and Lo and I both knew I wasn't fucking with Amari.
"I'm so not ready for practice today." Loren said, opening her English notebook. I guess she was trying to finish up the homework our teacher have us last week to do over the weekend.
"Me either. But I think I'm finna sit that whole back row down for the pep rally if they don't get those last three eight-counts down by Wednesday." I stated, opening my water bottle and taking a sip of it.
"I don't blame you girl." She nodded, writing something down. "But they'll get it. Don't trip. Just know I got it, hell."
I laughed as Day Day walked towards us.
"What's up y'all?" He grinned. He looked at Loren. "Is that the English homework? Let me get that from you." He threw his backpack on the table.
She popped her gum. "Um, no sir. You should've did your own homework."
He kissed his teeth. "You ain't even do your own homework."
She rolled her eyes. "I did, I just ain't write it down. Now leave me alone before I slap you. We got English two periods from now, let me finish then I'll think about letting you get it in AP Psych next period."
"Alright bet." He stood up. "I'm finna slide down on Jessi over there, she been giving a nigga them goggly eyes." He strolled to the other side of the cafeteria.
I giggled as I looked up to see Rosa storming out the cafeteria. I guess Loren noticing me looking because she began to look too.
She popped her gum. "Nope. Don't even try it, Bri."
"Whatttt?" I dragged the word out.
"I already know how you are, you was about to tell me to go with you to check on her. Nope, not doing it."
"Oh come on, Lo. That's our friend, regardless of the fucked up shit she did. We're all still friends. We can at least make she's good." I pleaded.
She looked at me before rolling her eyes. "Fine! Fucking fine." She closed her notebook and stuffed it in her backpack.
After disposing our lunch, we headed outside to the parking lot. I spotted Rosa leaning on her mom's car, on the phone. We walked towards her as she finished the call.
"Okay dad...Yeah, I'll be there in a minute...Okay...Alright bye." She ended the call.
"You okay?" I asked. "We noticed you leave the cafeteria in a hurry."
She wiped the tear falling down her face. "Yeah, it's just my sister. She's having a hard time adjusting to middle school."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
She sighed. "She's getting bullied. Last week, some girls ruined her assignment for class. Now today, they pushed her down the stairs."
Lo & I gasped. "What?"
She nodded. "Yeah... I told my parents to transfer her but she doesn't want to 'run away'."
"That's crazy, I never thought Lindsey would be somebody to get bullied." Loren spoke.
"Me either. Just a bunch of hating ass eighth-graders. I just hate she has to go through this." Rosa said, looking off into the distance.
She sighed and looked back at us. "Well, I have to go meet my parents at her school. I'll talk to y'all later."
"Alright. Don't be afraid to call if you need me. or Loren. We're always here for you. Right, Lo?" I said, looking at her.
She had a sympathetic look on her face. "Yeah. Don't hesitate to call." She embraced Rosa.
Rosa began sobbing. "I love you guys. & I'm so sorry."
"It's okay. Don't even worry about it." Lo said, hugging her tighter.
Rosa let go of Lo and wiped her eyes. "I'll call y'all later."
"Alright." I said, before stepping back so Rosa could get in her car.
After she left the parking lot, I looked at Lo, grinning.
She rolled her eyes. "Whatever. You know how me & Rosa are. We argue like a married couple then be right back at it. I don't even see why you took that argument seriously." She waved me off, walking towards the building.
"Mmhm! I knew we'd be reunited soon." I smiled big, following Loren.Bri to the side.
