"So tomorrow's the day." My dad said, buttoning his suit jacket.
This week went by so fast. I. didn't expect Thursday to be here this quickly.
"Yup." I simply stated, pouring my smoothie in my tumbler.
"Don't be that way, Bri." My nana said, washing our dishes from breakfast.
"What way, nana?" I sighed.
"Like this. You usually so sweet and loving. You've been really secluded and mean since you heard the news. We're all hurting, babygirl."
I picked up my cup and went towards the door, where my purse and shoes were sitting. I sat on the chair near the door and put on my sandals. My nana followed me.
"How about we go out tonight, huh? Just you and me." She smiled. "Anywhere you want."
I nodded. "Alright."
"You can bring that little boy you were on the phone with all night last night." She said, smirking.
I gasped and giggled. "How'd you-"
"I woke up to go to the bathroom and I heard you laughing. I stuck around for a second but y'all was too boring for me." She waved me off.
I giggled and grabbed my purse. "I'll be home by 5:30, Nana."
"Okay." She kissed my cheek. "I love you, be safe."
"Love you too." I walked out the door and drove to school. I made it there to see the parking lot a bit full, but I found a spot and pulled in. As I was unbuckling my seatbelt, Landon pulled up beside me with Rosa in the passenger seat. I rolled my eyes to myself and got out the car.
"What's the deal, lil mama?" Landon smiled. "You don't be speaking to me no more. What's up? Your little boyfriend got all your attention." He pulled me into a hug.
I smiled. "I don't ignore you, boy. I speak to you every time I see you. Seems like you be too occupied to notice." I said, throwing shade to Rosa.
I was surprised when a week passed and she still haven't spoke to me or Lo. Somebody obviously planting something in her ear and making her not want to deal with us.
"Whatever. Come on, Landon. We got people to see." She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him to the school doors.
I rolled my eyes and followed them to the cafeteria. I walked in to see everybody in their usual spots. I walked towards our table.
"Hey boo." Lo smiled as I sat next to her.
I hugged Lo. "Hey girl." I then turned my attention to the guys. "What's up y'all?"
Langston smirked at me. "Nothing, what's up with you?"
I shrugged. "Nothing."
Julian looked between us with his eyebrows furrowed. "Is this some kind of flirting thing y'all do? Cause if it is, it's so weird and I'd like for y'all to stop."
We laughed.
"Nah, it ain't bruh." Langston shook his head. "You gone eat that orange?" He said, grabbing Julian's orange off Julian's tray.
"Damn, give me two seconds to respond nigga."
We were interrupted by Kelsey, one of the twin captains for cheer.
"Hey Briana. I just came to tell you to report to the student council room first period. We have a meeting." She smiled that little stupid fake smile of hers.
I fake-smiled back. "Alright, thanks Kels."
She walked away.
"You're so good at being fake, it was almost believable." Day-Day said, nudging me.
I giggled, biting into my apple. "I try."
The bell rang, signaling we had ten minutes to get to our first period.
"You want me to walk you to that meeting?" Langston asked, grabbing his stuff and dumping it.
"Yeah, I'd like that." I smiled, picking up my purse.
We started walking to the student council room.
"So how you feel about tomorrow?" Langston asked.
I was silent for a few seconds. "I mean, I'm sad, but I knew it was coming. Just wasn't prepared."
He nodded silently. "Yeah, don't worry about it though, because I'm here for you. Whenever you need me." He pulled me into a side hug.
I smiled and wrapped my arms around him. "Thanks Lang-Lang."
He chuckled. "I told you, that's a ugly nickname."
"I like it. It's cute."
We made it to the student council door.
"Well, this is your stop Milady." he smiled.
"Yep." I looked him in the eyes. "Thanks again, for everything."
He pulled me into a tight hug and rested his hands on my lower back. "Don't mention it shawty." He whispered in my ear.
That alone was enough to make me just want to melt.
He let go after a good 15 seconds. "Have fun, I'll see you at lunch, okay?"
I nodded. "Okay."
He turned and walked back down the hallway. I blushed and walked into the room. It was filled with the usual. I sat at the head of the table considering the fact that I was student body president. Everybody wasn't there yet and neither was our student council sponsor, Mr. Jacobs so I just sat and started snacking on my granola bar.
"Hey Bri!" A chipper Isabelle sat next to me.
Isabelle was about 5'4", light brown hair and dressed like she went to the Beverly Hills Country Club everyday. She was Vice President and super sweet. She's originally from Manhattan but moved here when her dad relocated jobs.
"Hi Isabelle, I love your shirt." I smiled.
She flatten out her green polo shirt. "Thanks. My boyfriend wants to go golfing after school."
I giggled to myself. "Y'all are so cute. He be picking you up in his little Beemer."
"Yeah, his mom is supposed to be taking us to the Hamptons for Labor Day weekend. Oh, what I wouldn't do for a weekend back in New York."
Isabelle is a cool girl and she's nice to talk to, but after a while it just seems like she's bragging.
Just then, Amari walked in with Mr. Jacobs. I just rolled my eyes and focused on Mr. Jacobs.
"Goodmorning you guys and welcome to our first meeting of this school year." He welcomed, sitting at the other head of the table.
"So what's this meeting about, sir? Because I have photography this period." Isabelle asked.
He chuckled. "I just thought it was only right to introduce our new class representatives. I'm sure some of you know Amari." He looked at Amari. He just flashed everybody a smile.
"Well, Amari is our new Senior class representative." Mr. Jacobs smiled.
My anger was just boiling inside me. How is the hell is Amari supposed to be a representation of our Senior class? He barely comes to school, he barely has enough credits to even be classified as a senior. But I kept my poker face on so nobody noticed how heated I was getting.
"Now, I will redirect over to Ms. Gardener." He smiled, sitting down.
I sighed and stood up. "Goodmorning everyone. Today, Im going to talk about our first pep rally. Now the dance team will be performing a new dance and the drama club will be presenting a original presentation directed at our rivals, the Malibu Tigers." I stated. "So it should be a good game. Don't forget to come out and support us for our first football game. Go Eagles!" I smiled and sat while everyone at the roundtable applauded.
"Good, so if that's all. This meeting is dismissed." Mr. Jacobs said, hitting his gavel and leaving.
I quickly grabbed my bags before Amari had a chance to stop me. I was halfway down the hallway before he caught up with me.
"Avoiding me now?" He smirked.
"Please Amari, just leave me alone." I said, walking up the stairs.
"Why? You don't act like this around that nigga who be all ya face."
I just rolled my eyes.
"Talk to me Bri." He said, turning me around so that I could face him.
As I stared in his eyes, all the feelings I had been trying to bury for Amari came rushing back. It was like a dam that just couldn't hold back any more water. I looked at this huge scar under his eye from his car accident. I touched it softly, not wanting to hurt him.
"I miss you Bri, forreal." He spoke softly, pulling me closer to him.
I stayed silent as I took his appearance in. That same cologne I loved smelling was now just a reeking odor. He looked the same on the outside but I knew his personality and the way he acted wasn't who I fell in love with. I got out of his grip and turned to walk back class, ignoring him calling my name.

By lunchtime, I couldn't get Amari off my mind. Langston noticed but I guess he just waved it off.
"So then he was 'alright lil mama, let me get your number.' Like nigga what? That is not how you talk to a lady." Lo said, finishing her story.
Julian chuckled as he ate a fry. "Yup, too bad you're a man."
We laughed as Lo threw her napkin at him. "Very funny, punk."
"Aww, don't be like that Lo." I poked at her.
"He's such an asshole."
Langston pulled me closer to him so that my head was resting on his chest.
"You just can't resist me, can you?" I smirked, wrapping my arms around his torso.
He kissed the top of my head. "Not at all." He sighed. "I ran into your ex earlier."
I froze. "W-what happened?"
He shrugged. "He stared at me then brushed past me. He better be glad I ain't lay his ass out."
I just sighed and squeezed him tighter. "Don't worry about him. He's not going to try anything hopefully."
"If he do, I'll be ready."
The end of the day came finally and Lo and I were walking outside when I spotted Amari talking to some girl in her car.
"Hey Lo, I'll call you when I get home. I got some business to take care of." I stated.
"Alright girl, make sure you call me."
I just nodded and walked off. He seen me approaching and waved the girl he was talking to goodbye as she pulled off.
"What's up?" He smirked, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"You got a problem with Langston, then you have a problem with me, Amari." I simply stated.
He scratched the back of his head. "Langston, Langston. Nope, don't know who that is."
"My so-called 'boyfriend'" I air-quoted. "Which he isn't by the way."
"Bri, cut the bullshit." He stated. "Obviously you still care about me. So I ain't gone do all this extra shit by chasing you and showing you that I'm doing better now. I can show you better than I can tell you. So when you done with this LL Cool J wannabe, you know my number." He said before walking to his car and leaving me standing the parking lot, confused as hell.Bri to the side.
