At dinner...

As we sit down, dry after I extracted the water from our clothes, Abuela gets to her feet. "Everyone, I have a very special announcement!" She begins excitedly. "There is a new family in the Encanto!" Everyone looks at each other, curious and excited. "They arrived from the nearby city just this morning! They are the Hernández family, and they have a lovely young daughter, your age Mirabel, named Gracie." She says indicating towards Mirabel. "Tomorrow, make sure to say hello and welcome them. Their house is the first one on the left in the main street." She sits down after finishing and tells everyone to dig in. I turn to Camilo, "Someone new? We should say hi tomorrow!" I say. "Of course, mi vida, I'd love to."

The next morning...

Camilo and I are walking towards the village. The sky is layered with a blanket of light grey clouds. "I wonder why they moved here." I think aloud. "Yeh, we don't usually have new people come to the Encanto. Not many people know about this place." As we reach the village we see a girl, around our age with dark hair tied in a low ponytail, sitting on the stairs of a house with pale yellow walls. "This must be them," I say quietly to Camilo, who nods in agreement. We approach the girl who stands up to greet us. "Hola, you must be Gracie Hernández," I say warmly, shaking her hand. "Yep, that's me!" She replies. "I just moved here with my parents, they're inside. Mama! Papa!" She calls into the open doorway, and moments later a short dark haired women and a tall plump man with a friendly face hurry out. "Aya, you must be Camilo Madrigal!" The woman exclaims, shaking his hand. "My name is Davina, and this is my husband Carlos." She says. "We see you've met our daughter." Carlos says, placing his hand on Gracie's shoulder. "Si, senor," I say, "My name is Y/n, I've been living here for a few months," I introduce myself. "Well it's a pleasure to meet you both," Davina says. "I'm sure we'll meet the rest of your family later," She adds to Camilo. "Gracie, do you wanna come hangout with us for the day?" Camilo asks. "We can show you the village and Casita!" Gracie smiles and looks to her parents for approval. They nod and she joins us as we begin to walk through the village.

"This place is amazing, it's so beautiful!" She says and I look over to see her on the other side of Camilo gazing around at the stalls and houses. "I hear your family has magic? Is that true?" She asks curiously, more to Camilo than me. "Yeh, our Abuela was given a miracle candle, so we all got these cool gifts when we were 5. Except my cousin Mirabel, which caused a whole big fiasco a while back." Camilo explains casually. "Oh no, that sounds so sad!" Gracie replies in a slightly high pitched voice. "It's ok now though, Mirabel is like, connected to the candle and can channel it's magic and stuff." He continues. "Really? That's pretty cool." She says and we sit down on a bench to rest our feet. I look over again and see that she's sitting right against Camilo, her eyes glued to him. An irritated feeling begins to rise within me. "Sooooo what's your power Camilo?" She asks him in her innocent high pitched voice, which is starting to get on my nerves."This." He says and he shapeshifts into me, and then into Antonio, Isabella and finally back to himself. Gracie's mouth falls open. "THAT IS SO COOL!" She squeals excitedly, grabbing his arm. The irritated feeling inside me turns to anger and I flick my hand discreetly. A jet of water flies out of the nearby well and squirts Gracie in the face. "What the-" She splutters and coughs. "And that is my gift." I say with a smirk. Camilo turns to me with a confused look and whispers; "what was that for?" I look pointedly at him but he doesn't get the message. Gracie laughs innocently, "Wow, that's a pretty neat trick. "Are you Camilo's cousin or-" "Girlfriend," Camilo cuts her off. "Oh, I see, sorry I just assumed since you have a gift," She tries to hide her surprise. Camilo takes my hand in his. "It's a long story, but the candle gave Y/n a gift. Who knows why, but she deserves it." He says, turning to me and squeezing my hand. I look over his shoulder to see Gracie giving me a steely glare, a look of annoyance on her face.

Camilo stands up, still holding my hand, and suggests we head to the house. Gracie smiles again, nodding her head. When we reach the house she gasps in amazement. "THIS is where you live?" She asks. "Yep," I say, opening the door. "Casita has magic within its very walls," Camilo says, placing a hand fondly on one of the walls. "Is that so," Gracie says, looking all around, bewildered. We walk through the house, showing the lounge room, kitchen and then heading upstairs. As we walk down the halls, lined with glowing golden doors, Gracie continues to ask various questions, mostly to Camilo. Does she ever shut up. I think to myself. Oh god I'm jealous aren't I? I look at the floor as we continue walking. "CAMILO!" We stop as we hear Pepa calling from somewhere in the house. "Lo siento, chicas, I have to go," he says, kissing me goodbye on the cheek. "See you in a bit," I say as he hurries off. Once he is out of ear shot Gracie turns to me. "So how long have you two known each other?" Her question is forward and she asks without hesitation. "What, Camilo and I? Well, we met when we got here and we just got closer over time." I say, keeping my cool. "Oh so it's not serious, right?" Somebody needs to restrain me before I punch this bitch in the face. "It's serious," I say with an insincere laugh. "Oh ok," She narrows her eyes slightly. Is she smirking at me? Before I can say anything more she speaks again. "I better get back to my parents for lunch, but I'll see you around Y/n." She turns on her heels and walks away, leaving me fuming.

What is her problem? She just got here! My frustration grows as I stomp off, heading for my room. "So it's not serious" Wtf does she mean by that? I clench my fists as I walk across the stepping stones, the water around me bubbling. As I climb the stairs to my bed, still frigid with anger, the clouds around me grow dark and begin to thunder. I slump onto the bed. Rain drops fall around me and the waterfall becomes louder. I sit in the centre of my bed, taking deep breaths. I just wanna stay here for a bit, cool off, I think to myself, collapsing back and staring at the cloudy ceiling. I just need to stay here for a bit...
