"Look, I know it sounds crazy, and I know you guys think it doesn't make sense, but you have to trust me in this. I can't tell you what will happen." Paige started to say. "In the past week I've been thinking when in the time line we can interfere, and I think I found the right moment." She continued. "But for this to succeed we have to wait for the right time to come."
"How much time are we talking about? Weeks? Months?" Rhodes asked.
"Years." She whispered.
"Sorry, I don't think I've heard you." He pressed.
"Years, five years, we have to wait five years." She said louder, and the havoc started. Everyone talking at the same time, anger and confusion were the emotions in the room, making Paige shrink a little, scared.
"What do you mean with five years? There must be something we could do that doesn't make us wait that long." Natasha said.
"I'm sorry, but there isn't. If we do something sooner, it might create a chain of disastrous situation, and those might lead to more deaths." Paige said. "And I don't want more deaths, I want none, so please just cope with me." She continued almost crying. "You people only know me for a few weeks, but I know all of you for years, I know almost all about all of you. One thing I don't know is what's going to happen once all of this is over, so I want to make sure each and every one of you its alive at the end." She took a breath.
It was like someone ha pressed the mute button on a television, no one dared to say a word to contest the girl in front of them, she looked exasperated.
"Okay guys, I want everyone out of my workshop, we can talk more about this later, let little Paige over here breath." Tony broke the silence.
"No, wait! I have more things to say." She tried to speak but was stopped by Tony. He put his arm around her shoulders and started to lead her out of the room, to her bedroom.
"Don't even think about it now, go to your room and rest, FRIDAY will call you when dinner's here." He said making Paige pout. "Maybe then I think about letting you talk work while we eat. And one more think, don't pout." He poked her face making her giggle.
Paige entered her bedroom and laid on her bed, looking up to the ceiling, trying to think about what was happening. Little by little her eyes started to close, leading her to complete darkness.
Opening her eyes, Paige didn't fond herself on the bedroom she occupied in the Avengers Compound, but in her own room, in her own apartment. Her heart started to pick up, beating faster and faster by the minute, she felt dizzy.
"Why am I here? I don't want to be here." She said to herself.
"Don't worry child, you don't belong here anymore." A voice spoke to her in her mind. "I'm just here to guide you. You are a smart woman, who will make great choices, there are things you still haven't figure out how to solve, but you will, you just have to write it down." The voice continued. "You are more powerful than you know. Enjoy the next five years." And with that Paige woke up again.
Tony Stark burst through the door and looked at her with relief in his eyes.
"Where were you, Paige?" Was the first thing he asked.
"What do you mean? I just closed my eyes for like two minutes. I was right here." She answered him, confused.
"You were gone for two days." He said, shocking her. "All of us looked for you everywhere, but when I checked the cameras, you weren't anywhere to be seen, you just disappeared." He explained. "What happened?"
"When you left me here, I laid in the bed and closed my eyes, when I opened them, I was back in my room, in my apartment. I remember being scared, then the voice spoke to me again." She told him.
"And what did it say?" He asked her.
"That I'm more powerful than I know and to enjoy the next five years." She said. "It said that I didn't belong there anymore."
"So basically, you might have superpowers and got stuck here? How do you feel?" He asked.
"I think I'm going to be sick." She said and ran to the bathroom.
