Malory was working on her coronation speech. Trying to remember what Ella had taught her. To show the people she was in charge.
"Subjects of Zemira, I am your ruler now. You will follow my orders and bow to me."
Sounds too stuck up.
She crossed that out.
This is so hard. Why do I have to do this. Why did she choose me."Because she saw the potential in you. Never forget that, my lady." Said her maid, reading her thoughts as usual.
"Thanks Alice. I'm not so sure about that right now though." Malory replied.
"You will be. And if you need help with your speeches, you can always refer to your grandmother's old ones."
"YES! Grandma's old speeches! Thanks Alice." She exclaimed as she hugged Alice and ran to the late queen's chambers. She looked hurriedly through the shelves, trying to find a copy of her journals. "Where are you, where are you." She mumbled.
"Looking for something?" It was Victoria.
Malory jumped and let out a shriek.
"You're pathetic Malory. Can't even write your own speech. Why don't you just ask Ella like always," A smile curled up at the corner of her mouth, "Oh wait, she doesn't want you to succeed."
"Mother. Please. I don't have time for this right now."
"I can prove it to you in a second. I would never want to waste your precious time either."
"Oh yeah. Go for it. Because there's nothing you or anyone else can do to break my faith in Auntie Ella."
"Well here are your grandmother's journals and if you don't find every single thing written here to be the exact opposite of what dear auntie Ella told you, I'll admit I was wrong."
"Auntie Ella would never."
"See for yourself, why don't you," she tossed the books to Malory, "Hope you realise your faults soon." She left the room looking smug as ever.
Malory scanned through the pages as quickly as she could.
"A nation is not it's leaders, it's the people. The people are always superior to their leaders."
The exact opposite of what Ella taught her.
Her eyes widened in shock and disbelief as the enormity of the deception struck her.
