This takes place in an alternate universe where the characters switch places.
In this universe Penn and Marklyn were the first engines on the Melipiline Railroad.

Early Morning on the Melepiline Railroad. Penn and Marklyn were asleep in the shed. Penn was a small 0-4-0 tank engine and Marklyn was a 0-6-0 Tender Engine.

"Morning Penn" said Marklyn, waking Penn up.
"Morning Marklyn" said Penn wearily.
"Isn't it a beautiful day today?" asked Marklyn looking up at the early morning sky.
"It is a fine day" agreed Penn.
The crews had arrived early to light the engines fires.
As the two engines were getting ready for the day they heard a voice.
"well well, what do we got here?"
"Good morning sir" said Penn smartly. "Good morning" said Marklyn brightly.

"Good morning, good morning, good morning" said Mr Dennis, the controller. "And how are we doing today?"
"Ready as usual" said Penn.
"I've got exiting news" said Mr Dennis. "what is is?" asked Marklyn. "Melepiline line is receiving 2 new engines to join our fleet"
"2 engines, that's great news!" said Marklyn. "That is good news" said Penn.
"They'll be here in approximately, err" he checked his watch "3 hours, and until then you two are cleaning up the railroad"
"You can count on me sir, ill have this place looking spotless" said Penn.
"That's the spirit, ill meet you two with the new engines in 3 hours at the yards" "And I expect you two to give them the warmest welcome imaginable, are we clear?"
"yes sir" replied the two engines.
"Excellent, now get your metal butts out of here" said Mr Dennis before leaving.
"Can you believe it Penn?" Asked Marklyn. "Yes" replied Penn "Apparently yes"
Later when the engines had steam they puffed together down the line towards the yard.
