Chapter Two~
Love, Burning
One Year Later
I jerked awake. I'd relived that night so many times in the past year, I could recite it word for word- play by play. I rolled onto my back, sighing.
I glanced at my alarm clock. 9:04 on the third day of summer vacation. My phone vibrated on my nightstand.
New Message From:
Carter <3<3
"G'mornin' baby:)"
I smiled, thumbing back a quick response.
"Morning. Meh. I'ma take a shower and we can go somewhere this afternoon and you know what(:"
The secrecy, I wasn't fond of, but his parents didn't know about us. I guess if they decided to read through his messages they'd assume "our son's getting laid tonight!"
By a girl, of course.
I flopped out of bed, stretching, yawning, and stumbling into the bathroom.
Leaning against the basin, I rubbed my face with one hand. I looked at my reflection.
My eyes were darker blue than denim and my hair was dyed in the manner of flames. It looked weird, not being styled in every direction.
I shook my head and spun around to start the shower.
Sliding my shirt over my head, I looked down at how pathetic my body had become; skin and bones.
I stripped down and climbed into the shower. I thought of Carter. A year later, and we were still going.
We'd done things together- toured Europe for spring break, smoked several pounds of Marijuana (in Amsterdam and at home), etc.
We were happy and we were in love. At least, I was.
I finished washing my hair and got out, wrapping a towel around my head and around my waist. I looked at the unopened bottle of bleach; I'd surprise Carter.
I ran to my dresser and pulled out my hair dying clothes. I let the bleach set for 45 minutes before I brushed teal, purple, and midnight blue into my hair. I let it set for another hour and rinsed it out.
I liked the color scheme; it brought out my eyes.
I took off the stained shirt and jeans, changing into a black and fuchsia Ramones shirt, black cargo shorts and custom artwork Vans.
"Simon, honey? Are you up?" Mum yelled. "Yeah, I'm gonna go hang out with Carter," I told her, coming out of my room. "You need a ride? I'm going downtown to run a few errands," she explained, picking through her purse to find her keys. "Nah, I'll take my car..."
Mum looked at me. "Oh, I like the hair, Sy.. Anyway, don't smoke too much... It stinks like a rotting corpse or something."
I laughed, glad she didn't care if I smoked. She kissed my cheek and smiled before closing the front door. I walked back to my room. My phone lay, discarded, on my bed. I picked it up.

"Aiighht, babe:) Whenevah you're ready."
"Hey, sexxxie gayboy:D"
"U wan' hang 2day?"
"#Picture Message#"
I responded to Jessie: "Aye, hot lezmama(:", told Murphy I was busy, then opened the picture. It was Carter making an overly-done frown. The caption read, "where you be, baby?" I laughed, searching for my keys. I called speed dial 2- Carter.
He answered on the first ring.
"Carter the Elf, what's your favorite color?" I laughed again. "The color of your eyes." If blushing had a sound, I'd hear it, clear as crystal.
"So, whatcha got planned for today?" He asked.
"Oh.. Just, hanging out with the best guy ever," I teased. "When shall I come by?" Carter laughed. "Whenever, my dear." He was so cute when he acted uber-gay.
"I'll be there in ten."

The passenger door opened. Carter sat down, slamming it shut. He leaned across the armrest and kissed my cheek. "Hey," he whispered against my neck. My turn to blush. I pulled away from Carter's house, heading for our favorite place: the all-organic Resturant at the farmer's market; Mic's Gryllhouse.
I could see Carter looking at me out of the corner of my eye.
"Your hair is absolutely the most attractive color I've ever seen on you," he muttered, grabbing my free hand.
"I love you," Carter said. "I love you, too," I replied, smiling. I parked the car in a lot; Mic's was just down the street.
Carter and I held hands and began to walk down the sidewalk.
"Simon! Carter!" I looked over my shoulder. Jessie and another girl were striding to us.
"Damn, it's been a while, Jess!" Carter remarked, hugging her. I followed suit; Jessie grinned. "Simon, Carter, this is my girlfriend, Sally. Sally, these are my two favorite gay guys," she said. Sally smiled, but said nothing.
"So what are you girls up to?" I asked. Sally answered. "Jess didn't know where to go for lunch, so, I told her about this Resturant called Mic's Gryll-"
"Hey, we're on our way there, too! You want to join us?" Jessie's face lit up. She looked to Sally. "That alright with you, babe?" She nodded.
"It's a date!"
