Song of the chapter: Welcome to my life- Simple Plan

***

I walked quickly in school, almost running to my locker. I kept my head down, wishing no one would notice me. Most of the time I wish I was invisible... or dead for that matter but that's another story. As I arrived to my locker I threw my backpack there and grabbed my book. First class, Math. I looked around and my eye caught Nash, my best friend since
... well forever.

Nash has dirty blonde hair and blue, captivating eyes. Seriously he's eyes could capture your soul, they were a fascinating view.

"Goodmorning girl, how are you?" He said, pecking me on the cheek. I forced a smile and closed my locker.

"I'm good how are you?" I said, trying my hardest to sound convincing.

"Fighting with Emily, again. I can't stand this girl anymore. She makes a huge deal out of everything." He said annoyed.

Emily is Nash's girlfriend two months now and he always complains about how much of a drama queen she is. I don't know her well enough but she seemed nice when we went for a movie with Nash and her the other day.

"What is it about, this time?" I asked as we walked to my class.

"I fell asleep last night without telling her "Goodnight"! Do you fucking believe that chick? She gets on my nerves more than any girl ever did. You're not even THAT annoying." He said jokingly and I chuckled.

"You love me Nash."

"Unfortunately.." he said. And kissed me on the cheek as we arrived in my class. "See you."

"Later." I said and walked in class as the bell rung.

I sat and opened my book and started drawing little clouds, waiting for the teacher. School makes me sick. I saw a group of girls approaching me. It was Natalie and her friends. They always walked around school with her super short mini skirts and annoying heels acting like the world belonged to them. Goal of their life: To make mine miserable.

"I thought you were dead already. Why are you here?" Natalie said and looked down at me. I looked around and realised all eyes were glued on us.

"Hey!" She screamed making me jump "Look at me when I'm talking bitch!" She grabbed my sweater and pushed me, causing me to fall and a few chuckles. "You are not wanted here. Go kill yourself, you worthless piece of shit." She spit bitterly and walked away.

I sat down again, trying not to burst into tears as the teacher walked into class. He started talking but I didn't pay much attention. Why are they doing this? I never hurt any of them. I haven't even talked to them. This is not fair. I don't want my life anymore. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"Come in." Mr. Matthews called. The door opened and the principal walked in, along with a blonde boy.

He had hazel brown eyes and he seemed a bit nervous. He was wearing a short-sleeve shirt, since it was a million degrees outside and a plain pair of blue jeans with sneakers. He was stunning.

"I'm sorry to interupt your class Mr. Matthews. Children, this is Justin. He just moved in from Atlanta and he will be attending our school. I expect the best welcoming from all of you. Have a nice class." The principal said and walked out.

"Welcome to our school Justin. Take a seat next to... " Mr. Matthews said and scanned the class to find an empty seat. I kept my head down hoping he won't see me.
"Next to Miss Brooklyn, last desk."

Damn! I looked up and my eyes met his. He walked towards me and sat right next to me. I was not comfortable with that at all. I don't like being in public, I don't like when people talk to me, I don't like when people look at me and I don't like people in general. They are all beasts full of egoism and greed. Once they get what they want from you, they'll leave you.

"Hi" a whisper interrupted my thoughts. I turned my head to Justin, feeling extremely anxious.

"Hey." I said quickly and looked down again.

"I'm Justin." He said and smiled. Stop doing that. Stop. Stop. Please stop giving me attention. "What's your name?" He won't stop, will he?

"I'm Shadow. Shadow Brooklyn." I murmured.

"That's beautiful" he said and looked at me top to bottom. That made me wanna cry.

He didn't talk but he glanced at me a few times. Finally the bell rung and I quickly took my book and run to my locker. What is his deal? Why would he talk to me? What does he want? I'm so scared. My anxiety kicked in and I was on the verge of tears. I bit my lip and looked up, taking a deep breath. Calm down Shadow. Calm down. Just a few more hours.

"Are you okay?" I heard a voice next to me that caused me to jump. I looked next to me and I saw Justin. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He said, looking at me.

"It's okay. I'm fine." I murmured and grabbed my Chemistry book.

"I have Chemistry too. Wanna walk to class together?" I heard Justin say. I looked at him and then quickly looked down.

"Sure." I said. He flashed an incredibly beautiful smile and we started walking towards Chemistry class.

"Aren't you hot in that sweater?.. I mean.. It's like two thousand degrees.." he chucked. I felt nervous.

"Not really.. I think I've caught a cold or something.." I said and I felt eyes burning holes into my back. I glanced back and saw Natalie and her crew approaching us. "Can we walk faster?" I said looking down and increased my walking speed.

"Is anything wrong?" He said looking behind.

"No, no just.. come on" I grabbed his hand and started running to class with him. Once we arrived I looked behind and felt relieved they weren't in view.

"Shadow what happened?" Justin asked.

"Nothing." I breathed and sat down on my seat.
He watched me for awhile and sat next to me. The next classes went by and we had almost the same classes with Justin.

"Where did you move in from?" I asked as he placed his lunch tray on the table. He looked surprised since I've been quiet all day. I wouldn't blame him, I was surprised myself.

"Atlanta, Georgia. My mom had to move in here for work."

"Must suck to lose all of your friends.." I said and he shrugged

"Yeah... So where do you live?" He asked.

"Not away.. just down the street. You?"

"Me too. I could drop you by if you want." He offered.

"Umm... yeah thanks.." I said and he smiled.

We remained in an awkward silence after that. I didn't have him in other classes by the end of the day but I couldn't get him out of my head. Why is he so nice to me? I don't understand it. The last class finished and I walked down the hall and waited him in the exit. He showed up with a smile.

"Ready?" He said. I didn't maintain eye contact for over 5 seconds. It made me uncomfortable..

"Yeah." I said and he walked me to his car.

Turns out he lives a couple of blocks away from me. We said our goodbyes and I walked in the house.

"Shadow!" I heard my dad's drunken voice calling me.

Uh-oh..
