"What about my friends?" 

She had asked the soldier, standing outside from where he stood inside the only bathroom her house held. She left him alone at first, hovering in the kitchen doorway and staring at the dead solider on the floor. But after the first few minutes passed, she came to check on him and he just muttered something over cleaning himself up. 

"We were only sent to collect you and bring you back to base" 

The soldier answered from inside the bathroom, his voice filled with pained and was strained. She did hear him grunt a little and his breathing seemed uneven but she simply assumed he was crying, calming himself down after having to kill his comrade, a friend just moments before. 

"Eren is the son of doctor jaeger, he's works at the base with my own father. He must be just as important as I am .. right?" 

I foolishly stated, trying to find a reason over why we should go pick up my friends on our own way back to base. We'd have to pass the start of the hill and the top of the hill edge that Armin lived down. They could simply pick her friends up on their way to base. She knew Armin parents didn't work at the base, they were dead and he was stuck living with his unworking grandfather but still .. she could simply make a run for it to his house and pick him up. 

The solder didn't reply straight away, she heard a thud inside before watching as the door was pushed open and he grimly stepped out to the hallway. His handgun in hand, his hand trembled while his eyes were still red raw from crying seconds before. 

"Miss Ackerman, I need you to listen to everything I'm going to tell you. I need you to listen to the orders I'm going to give you. You can try reaching your friends, if Mr Jaeger is a child of someone in the base than soldiers would be sent for him as well. They might be able to give you a lift to the base and complete my mission" 

The soldier spoke as clearly and calmly as he could, his eyes filled with a form of pain that she couldn't understand just yet. He was acting as if neither of them had any time left and they had to move swiftly.

"Complete your mission? I don't understand, why can't you complete it?" 

She had asked, tilting her head a little and trying to make sense why he seemed to solemn. She knew he must have been upset over what happened in the kitchen but she didn't understand why he was giving up so easily. They were safe for now and the base was forty minutes away, they could make it as long as they were careful and didn't get bitten. 

"After we crashed, he got bit trying to help pull me out of the jeep. One of those things had ran over as he held onto me and bit him right on the next. He killed them before helping me out and I tried keeping pressure to the wound. We ended up reaching your house, I was going to give him better medical care inside. He crashed into the kitchen door, landing inside with a thud and I told him to stay put while rushing inside to search for a medical kit. I came back to find him trying to eat you ... we were no longer than ten minutes at most. I got bit, outside the house. My friend, the other soldier with me, he tripped over the curb and was ready to give out on me. One of those things bit me on my ankle .. It's been five minutes" 

He told the story, his reasoning and left what his fate become unspoken but they both knew what was going to happen to him. The proof was the dead soldier laying in her kitchen, killed as he stood as a monster not himself.
