44. Jaehyun-ah?

Red Velvet Comeback Stage.
Backstage.

While watching Red Velvet perform, I felt a presence behind me. He covered my eyes and with a serious voice, he said, "Guess who."

I took his hand away and faced him, "There's no time for jokes, Jaehyun."

He mocked me with an ugly face. "I was just checking if my Haneul is doing fine." He swept my hair behind my ear. Eeek.

"Puh-lease. I'm doing just fine without you. I've been fine for the past few years," I stupidly blurt out. I wasn't supposed to say that! Oh gosh, I didn't mean to bring our past back.

He looked at me, amused. "So you still remember, huh?"

I started to panic and babble useless things, "What remember? I don't remember anything. I mean, pff. What are you saying? I mean--"

"This," he cut me off and damped his lips on mine. Oh. my. potatoes. What is he doing?! Omona. There are people here with us!

He backed away before I could even push him. I wiped my lips harshly, "What the f@#$!"

Before I could curse on him more, he dragged me to an empty room. It looked like it was someone's dressing room.

"How about I throw a flashback since we're at it. Do you remember using me? Using me to take revenge on someone?!," he glowered on me.

I must've looked curious. What is he talking about? I thought we already talked about this?

"W-what do you mean?," I stuttered.

He snickered, "Playing innocent now, huh? Now I know why you took acting classes. You're a really good actress, by the way."

I didn't know what to answer. Why can't he just forget the past? He's even bringing up things that I already cleared out to him.

He tiltled his head, "Don't know what to say? Oh, I forgot to tell you, in case you're missing on what's happening. Did you know that after you left me, I had amnesia. I forgot everything and it took awhile before I can remember my past, but only those memories before you ruined everything. Gladly, there was someone kind enough who told our whole story."

The look of knowing washed over my face. So this is why he was narrating false statements. He was told things that wasn't true.

Aigoo. I feel like I want to pull every strand of my hair out. This is so frustrating! Aigoo, cheongmal.

I blew my non-existent bangs in frustration. "Yah! Who told you that? What was said to you was partly false! Aish, jinjja. How come you believe something that didn't come from my mouth!"

I looked at him with narrowed eyes, "Did that person perhaps tell you that at first, I used you--" He clicked his tongue and looked at me,  disappointed, "--but then I realized you needed me.. and so I stopped."

He walked around the room, trying to figure out what to say.

"But.. Apeoji... apeoji, he told me.."

"Apeoji? Your father? I-I thought your father died in a malfunction in a company..?"

"Stepfather." This is getting confusing. Who is his stepfather who knew me?

"And that is..?," I urged him to continue.

"I'm not supposed to tell you this but.. it's.. it's your current CEO."

"Youngmin?," I said in disbelief, his name dripping with malice the way I said it.

"Youngmin?," I repeated, amused.

He took a deep breath and nodded, "I don't know who to believe anymore, though."

I held both his shoulders, "Listen carefully. I did leave you, because I was afraid to be dependent to you. I knew we were both having something already. But.. I couldn't."

flashback

"Jaehyun-ah. Do you know where your dudes live? I heard they were pretty awesome twins."

"You mean Jack and Finn?," he continued brushing his wet hair. To think about it, he was so comfortable with me. He just came from the shower and he's right here in front of me, with only a towel draped around his waist.

"Jack and Finn, yeah." He looked at me suspiciously and I avoided his eyes.

"Come on! Dude, I'm right here! No need to look anymore for the perfect guy."
