You looked at the card that was in the letter. You decided to give the letter to your mom for her to read. She had about the same reaction as you asking about the card. Showing it to her she looked at you then the food sitting on her plate. "Well what are you thinking?" That was your mom, always straight to the point. You never actually thought about what you were going to do with the letter but you had a few possibilities. "Maybe I'll email the guy." She only nodded and went back to eating before stopping again. "I know how much you hate me babying you, but, I wanted to know if you wanted me to stay home tomorrow instead of going to work."

You stopped eating yourself and just looked at your plate blankly. She was right, you hated being treated like a child after having been forced by others to take on a much more mature figure. Your mother always got mad whenever someone said something about how "I should enjoy my life as a kid more" or "I should learn to grow up". Your father was the same always treating you your age and counting on you to make good decisions for yourself.

Your grandparents used to drive you insane guilt tripping you or degrading you. It was the worst 8 years of your life but ever since your parents found out you never went back there. You got treatment for the abuse they put on you and got the love from your parents that you never got from them. You loved your parents even though they almost always work. You love them because they tried so hard to fix what they did but at the same time accept the fact that they couldn't get their little girl back without hurting you more. You learned to read them and they learned how to help you even when they have no idea how to do it. You could tell how badly she wanted to stay with you and hug you. Tell you everything was alright and that she will always protect me from anything. That's what I loved about her. It was the fact she still saw you as her little baby that was never affected by such bad stuff. It made you feel normal in a way.

"Can you stay home please? I wanna be with you for a little more." you looked up from your food to see her smiling at you. "Of course pumpkin whatever you need." She grabbed your free hand with hers and rubbed it. "Hurry and finish up before it gets cold." "Alright." You laughed as you finished your food. The food was delicious, plus you were so grateful to be home, but the card laid in the back of your head. 'I'll message him when mom is asleep.'
