The day is fairly clear today.

The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and not a cloud is in the sky.

Ah! And, of course, there's Lily, watching from the corner of the barnhouse as she waited for misfortune to befall her unsuspecting victim.

Though, it seems she would be the one who had been unsuspecting.

"What are you doing?"

"Gah!" the girl shouts, quickly spinning around to see none other than her expected victim. Immediately, disappointment fills her, and she pouts and whines at the boy before her, the latter raising a brow at her knowing what she had been up to.

"Did you think I wouldn't notice you standing here suspiciously?... I just came from the chicken coop, you simpleton," the boy states, causing the girl to frown even more at him.

Grumpily, she huffs and folds her arms before turning away from him back towards the barn doors.

"What else are you even waiting for?" the boy whispers teasingly as he leans over the girl.

"Oh, shut up, Arthur!" Lily cries back at him, her frown still resting upon her face. She then turns back to the doors, shushing him. "I've already set everything up. I might as well just wait for someone else to come and fall–"

"Fall victim to your plans?" the boy says, looking amused. "Pssh. Yeah, right. If there's anyone who'd ever be so clueless as to what you have there, it would be the mat–"

"Goodness! Is that the matron?!" Lily suddenly whispers harshly, and Arthur's eyes widen before he tilts his head to peek around the barn as well.

"Lily, what did you–"

The boy is cut off, however, when the matron screams and steps back in shock, landing with her bottom on a pile of cow poo before a bucket of feathers falls onto her, the bucket aoon landing on her head.

Lily quickly places her hand over her mouth, but a laugh escapes her, and soon, the two children both hear the matron shouting a name.

"LILY!"

"Run!" the girl shouts mischievously to the boy behind her, and Arthur, who had stayed dumbfounded for two more seconds, soon follows her with wide eyes.

"H-hey! Wait up!"

They both jump over the fence, and soon, they're running through the green fields, Lily laughing with her dress fluttering and Arthur running close behind her.

Friends since the old days, they are. Arthur and Lily, born four years in between and yet not knowing to whom they have been born to. Yes, they were both orphans. But Lily always tried to make the best out of her orphanhood, and Arthur either joined her in it or tried to make her grow.

He never got her to grow, however. Lily was just too much of a playful little rascal.

They both lived in a little orphan house just off the borders of a town called Viridus, named the same as the kingdom that rules it. And there, they lived and grew up with Gertrude, the cranky old matron, the farm animals they raised, and several other orphans whom they've either befriended or become enemies with.

It was a humble but peaceful enough life.

Enough for Arthur.

For Lily, however...?

Lily had been sailing across the fields, laughing and barely seeing where she's going when the boy behind her suddenly grabs her waist from behind, lifting her high up in the air before spinning and setting her down.
