It had been a few weeks since Professor Tate's encounter with Quirrell. The strange man seemed to be keeping his head down since then which only made Anastasia more suspicious.
She hadn't told anyone about the encounter. She needed more evidence of him being after the stone. For all, she knew he could have truly been lost. If that were the case and she has gone to Dumbledore she'd have accused an innocent man. She couldn't bear the embarrassment of that nor did she want to know the consequences.
"Professor Tate" an unsure voice pulled Anastasia from her thoughts. She looked up from her desk at the sea of students writing their papers. "Yes, Mr. Weasley?" She questioned once her eyes landed on the boy who spoke. "I was wondering...well actually, my father was wondering. He asked me to ask you" Anastasia smiled at the redhead before her as she walked over to his desk. It amused her to see him ramble on, not getting straight to the point. It reminded her of her young niece and nephew. "Go on?" She smiled politely at the redhead "what's the function of a rubber duck?"
This almost made Tate laugh. There wasn't really a function of a rubber duck at all. "Good question Mr. Weasley! The class did you hear the question?" Some students nodded while others shook their heads. Anastasia gave a curt nod as she went to a small closet in the back of the room. "The question was, what is the function of a rubber duck." She said as she rummaged through the closet filled with objects from the muggle world.
Once she found what she was looking for she grabbed the small yellow toy and walked to the front of the room. "This class is a rubber duck! Has anyone ever seen one before?" She asked brightly. She was always excited to share her knowledge of the muggle world with anyone who'd listen. That's probably why she loved her job as much as she did. Professor Tate couldn't see herself doing anything else. It was also easy work. She grew up in the muggle world even through her parents were witch and wizard. Plus she was a little lazy so this was the perfect profession for her.
"I've seen a live one" quipped a small Slytherin who would much rather be anywhere else than in the Muggle Studies class. Anastasia ignored the comment and continued "this ladies and gentlemen is a toy for small children in the muggle world. It was originally invented during the late 19th century! The purpose is to stimulate the brain of small children during bath time! This means it will help the development of a child's brain as they play with the duck." She explained.
For the first time, Ron Weasley took very detailed notes on the subject, eager to owl his father about rubber ducks.
Anastasia then conjured up a bucket of water with her wand. "Please observe," she said as she submerged the yellow duck into the water. When she pulled it back out she squeezed it and water shot from the mouth and hit Neville Longbottom in the face. Anastasia stifled a laugh "Oy, why is it always me" the plump boy complained "sorry Mr. Longbottom. I have a horrid aim." She apologized "this Mr. Weasley is the function of the rubber duck!" She smiled brightly.
