She didn't mean for these things to happen.
It just does.
Tong Yao smiled tentatively at the tall, brown-haired man in front of her. He was holding out his phone where his QR code of his WeChat ID desperately stared after her. He had the face resembling that of a cute puppy begging at her for tablescraps of food.
"Oh, okay...." Sliding her phone out of her uniform's pockets, she scanned his ID onto her phone with a polite, closed-lipped smile.
This was the third time in a single week. Waves of emotion were rolling in and out of her like water on a shore, and yet she wasn't sure whether it was frustration, flattery, or uneasiness.
"Great! I'll text you, Miss! Let's be good friends!" His innocent grin was blinding.
Yeah, friends. Only friends.
"Maybe we can play duos tonight if you're up for it?" He sounded very hopeful.
"She's busy tonight."
Tong Yao's spine stiffened straight at the cold but familar voice walking up from behind her in the backstage hallway. Her tiny neck hairs were like DaBing's whiskers. With it, it was like she could feel the sparking currents in the air as if Lu Si Cheng's presence was an electrical conductor.
"Oh, then, maybe tomorrow when you're free?" His grin never faltered.
"She's busy the entire day."
Tong Yao blinked up in surprise. "I am?" She didn't remember her schedule being too packed tomorrow. Actually, tomorrow was practically her free day considering the large slots of free-time on her calander.
"Then, maybe you can text me whenever you're free!"
Lu Si Cheng's arms crossed against the flat plains of his chest as he stood halfway between Tong Yao and their e-sports opponent. The air around them thinned at his stern look, but the brown-haired man was unaffected by the disturbance. Even when Si Cheng's eyes narrowed into a cold glare, the man's puppy-like behavior still remained tact when gazing over at Tong Yao.
"She's busy the whole month."
"No worries! We can find a way around that."
"No." Sicheng stated with finality, "You can't."
The man finally looked up at her leader, "Cheng-ge—"
"It's Si Cheng," he interceded.
"—Si Cheng, sir, who are you to decide her schedule but her manager?"
Tong Yao pursed her lips at such a dangerous and daring question aimed at the Lu Si Cheng, but nonetheless, kept silent because it was a question she was waiting to ask later on. Just- maybe not that straightforwardly.
She couldn't see Si Cheng's facial response at the question. All she could see was his backside. Though, she could definitely see how tense her leader had become at her pursuer's question.
"Her leader. Apart from our manager, I also oversee my team's schedule."
Behind him, Tong Yao scoffed under her breath. She was blind of the sideways glare Lu Si Cheng threw at her since she was preoccupied staring at the floor.
"We'll be going now. We're busy people."
With that, Si Cheng turned to clasp Tong Yao's small wrists and strode back down the hall towards their team room, leaving her to keep up with his long legs and brisk pace.
"Lu Si Cheng!"
"What?"
"What are you doing!?" She yanked her wrists from his large hand and covered them with her own instead. They stopped right in front of their team room where the rest of ZGDX are packing up their bags to leave.
