Unusual friendships

Fight. Resolve. Peace.

They weren't greeted with joy: A lot of panicked and screaming fairies fly around. The giants are thrown at with food and spells, but it did nothing to them. Ben steps forward to speak:

"Everyone, please try and stay calm. We just want to leave and go back to our homes". Two fairies come flying to Ben's hand: "Oh, Rose! What happened to you?". As quick as they came, they were flying away with Rose and healed her. With a gasp, Rose woke back up: "Mother? Father?", she turns around and sees all the giants: "Yes! We did it!". "Wait. We? You helped them escape?!", her parents ask Rose.

Rose nodded: "Yep!" and flies up to Ben's face: "Thank you, giant! Without you I wouldn't have made it out alive. I'm sorry for causing you all this pain-", Ben cuts her off: "First of all, you didn't cause us anything- the king and his guards did this to us. Second, without you, many of our kind would've died. So thank you. Rose.", Ben spoke while kneeling to her.

"Rose! Get away from them! They want to-", tried to yell her mother but Rose cut her off: "Shut it, mother. You haven't seen what I saw in this prison. How they treat the giants. You have not seen the true colours of our late king, how he won't say no to kill one of our own kind, let alone hundreds of theirs".

Everyone looks shocked at Rose. Both the giants and fairies went quiet: "Giants are misunderstood. They don't cause us harm, they are not our enemies. We started all of this. Let's end this hateful way of living and create peace between our kinds. Fairies and giants". Rose's father objected: "You flew here, screaming for help and now you want to create peace? Are you insane?". Rose flies onto Ben's head: "Maybe. This giant and me have played together for a long time. Our favourite game is "Catch" where we have to chase each other and try to catch the other. We have never harmed each other, it's all games and pretending".

She turns to Ben: "Thank you for opening my eyes to the lies told by our king". Ben replies: "Thank you too for showing me not all fairies are bad". Rose chuckled: "What is your name, giant? All these years and I haven't asked you once". "My name is Ben. Glad to meet you, Rose".

The giants and fairies got healed by each other. With no one leading the fairy kind, the fairies voted for Rose to rule. She gladly accepts and does her best to this day to keep the peace between giants and fairies. Ben and the other giants said goodbye to everyone and returned home to their own village, their own kind. Finally reuniting with their fathers and mothers again.

After some time, Ben and Rose chat with each other in the forest, the same forest they were playing with since the beginning: "Same spot, same time?". "I'll be waiting, bug", Ben laughed. "Behave yourself, filthy giant!", said Rose and slapped him with a giant, magic hand. "Oof, I forgot you have better control now, queen Rose".

The two, unusual friends laugh together. Their kinds are at peace and shall remain this way for at least as long as Rose rules their kind. If they haven't died yet, they shall catch each other to this day.
