 I close my eyes as the burning sensation becomes clear. I am dying. It doesn't seem all that bad though. I get to go to the afterlife with Kagaya-sama. But not without leaving my friends behind. It breaks my heart to see all of their sad faces. I want them to be happy for me. I want them to know that they'll be alright without me. I open my eyes to see Inosuke running toward me, tears flowing down his cheeks. He is not ready to let me go. He embraces me as I burn in the sunlight. His whimpers and cries fill my heart with sorrow. 

 "Please don't be sad Inosuke," I say in a teary voice.

 "You can't leave!" Inosuke cries. "You promised me! You promised you would never leave me again!"

 I try to remember when I had made such a promise. It is not hard. All my memories are flowing back to me at once. When we were seven years of age, we were enjoying ourselves at a lake near our home. We had fun that day. I remember saying something. Something important.

 '"Inosuke... I promise I'll never leave you. Let's live out the rest of our lives here," I said.'

 I remember it clearly now.

 "I'm sorry I couldn't keep our promise, Inosuke," I say to him as I burn. "But... Lets make a new promise. Do you promise to forgive me in our next lives?"

 I couldn't stop the tears from falling. I didn't want to leave him. I wanted to live the rest of my life with him. I wanted to start a family, build a house in the forest. I wanted to do all those things. But I can't. Not yet. I will be reborn into a world with him. A world without Kibutsuji. A world without Sadness and Sorrow. I will be reborn.

 "I do. I promise," Inosuke says. "We will be reborn,"

I smile at him one last time as my vision blurs. He smiles back at me as he watches me burn into a pile of ash.
