Tuesday Afternoon
Will sighed. His mom was going to kill him. Not only had he forgotten about detention, but he was going to be home late. He was screwed.
But there was an upside. Mike.
Will opened the door. "No I just think it's stupid. Detention has no purpose. You have someone you would like to get home to, don't you Mr. Carter? Isn't it a little wasteful of your short life left to spend it here? With two teenage boys who have a lot better stuff to do?"
"Keep talking and it's detention for a week Wheeler." Mike rolled his eyes and looked down at his homework. When Will walked in, Mike looked directly at him and smiled.
"Mr. Byers, welcome. You can sit there." Mr. Carter pointed to a desk three away from Mike. This is going to be a lot worse than I thought.

Focus, Mike. Focus.
He tried so hard but Mike couldn't focus on his Spanish homework. All he could think about was Will. It was stupid. He wasn't going to ruin another friendship, plus he hardly knew Will.
He looked over and saw the small boy staring back at him. His face turned red. Mike chuckled and looked back at his homework. Only another hour of this.
––––
"Well that was boring as hell,"
"I really don't think it was that bad, Mike. I mean we got work done right?" No. Mike didn't get work done. He was too distracted.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Hey, wanna come over? I mean like, if you want."
Will looked at his watch. "I don't know. It's been a while since school ended. My mom is going to freak when I tell her about detention. She'll probably have the cops looking for me. I should get home."
"Oh...oh yeah. Okay. Cool, see ya tomorrow." Mike turned his bike onto a road that was close to his. He felt so stupid.
Why did he have to say that? Will's going to think he's into him. Mike pedaled faster. What if their friendship is ruined because Mike is flirting? Mike pedaled faster. What if the whole situation happens again because Mike can't control his feelings? Mike pedaled faster than ever. He was going so fast he didn't even notice the fallen tree in the road.
"Shit," He tried to slow down. He couldn't fast enough. Mike hit the tree and flew over it. He blacked out as soon as he hit the ground.
––––
Ow. What the hell is wrong with my head? Mike slowly opened his eyes. Where was he? He looked around. Am I in a hospital? He started to feel a rushing pain all around his body. He groaned.
"Doctor, he is awake!" Mike looked over to see a male nurse sitting in the corner of the room. Staring at him. A tall blonde woman walked in. She smiled at Mike. He didn't smile back.
"Hello. I am Dr. Grey. You were brought in because of a biking accident. Do you remember that?"
Mike thought hard. "I-I remember biking home from school. And I remember seeing a tree in the road, but that's it."
"Okay. What is your name? A stranger brought you in because she found you lying unconscious." The doctor seemed kind but Mike had a hard time trusting anyone.
"Um, I'm Michael Wheeler."
"Do you have a guardian's phone number and name?" Mike gave both.
––––
"Michael, we were worried sick. We had no idea what happened to you!" Karen Wheeler hugged her son.
"Ow." "Sorry honey, did that hurt?" Mike was in pain everywhere. Obviously it hurt. He just nodded.
"Wait...where's dad?" "He's um...at home with Holly." "Oh, okay." Mike was a little disappointed his whole family didn't show up. He could have died. His family didn't care. He knew deep down Karen only came because of the call. She honestly did not care.
"Is he ready to leave or...?" Karen raised an eyebrow at Dr. Grey.
"He should be alright. Just make sure he takes these pain pills every day."
"Thank you so much! Let's go Mike."
Mike slowly stood up and walked out the door with his mom. Every step was painful, but he didn't want to push his luck with his mom. Maybe she actually cared. For once.
The car ride was long and awkward. Karen kept giving Mike strange looks and neither of them talked. For 20 minutes.
When they got home, Karen let Mike inside and slammed the door.
