"guys, we're coming up on Freedman's Chruch. it's the church Denmark build for all the slaves he freed." Pope pointed as they all passed the church.
shortly after they made it to where the tree was being able to see it from a mile maybe less away.
"there it is, Angel Oak." Kiara said.
"oh, shit! the tide's coming in." John B slowed down which made everyone look out the window.
"um.."
"hey, wait a second. look. they already came through here." Pope pointed seeing the tire marks on the mud, "those have to be Limbrey's tire tracks. guys, we gotta go."
"mm, what do you think, chief?" JJ asked John B.
'i'm thinking it's looking a little dicey." John B stated looking at the mud.
"yeah, i'm gonna have to agree with that statement." JJ agreed with his best friend.
"yeah."
"okay, clearly, they made it. no?" Kiara asked.
"in a two-wheel drive? i don't know about that." JJ answered her.
"why are y'all acting like you're not gonna do it anyways?" Sarah asked with a grin formed on her face, "like when have y'all ever done the safe thing?"
"never. that's why the window's broken." Caroline pointed to the broken window.
"she's got a point." John B turned around turning the twinkie back on.
"speed is your friend here, okay? so, put her down in a second and hammer down, brother." JJ told John B as Caroline started clutching to the seat in front of her holding onto Sarah.
"stick to the ground in the middle." Pope instructed holding onto John B's seat tightly.
"all right, ready? here we go."
the drive went smoothly, well kinda, both Caroline and Kiara thought the twinkie was going to slide but it didn't and John B had managed to get through safely pulling over.
"Angel Oak is right through here. all right, so word to the wise, definitely know that gators nest back here," JJ opened the back door letting the girls and Pope out, "so keep your eyes peeled, okay?"
"you don't wanna step on a mama gator. that's the last thing you want to have happen." JJ reached his hand out for Caroline which she took looking confused around on the ground.
"they have nests?" she asked.
"seems like a good place to park." Sarah said, her voice filled with sarcasm.
"all right," JJ let go of Caroline's hand picking up a stick.
"please don't." Caroline begged already knowing what her boyfriend was planning on doing.
